Mario, I have a reasonable condition Sobstad mainsail if you are interersted, however getting the sail from Harlow, Essex to Scotland could cause a problem. There may be a way, but it will not happen till end of August. Bear with me will see what I can do.. Jon |

If the wings are not damaged they will be fine - if less than 100% there are many fixes short of a total upgrade. 2nd Hand (standard) sails are few and far between so maybe a 'wanted' ad on CA website will help. I think you will stuggle to find an available carbon boom tube but may find an alloy one from someone who upgraded years ago. If you have a real problem drop me a direct email. Mike L. I've found the Yahoo group and class site and will be watching the sales and wants page on your advice. If you hear of any decent 2ndhand mk2 style parts ( sails, booms, wings) - I'm all ears!

Thanks Mike - Hull and sail Number is 541 from memory the spare sail was from mid 600's boat. I'll have to wait a while before changing the sail/ boom as I recall I'd be looking at about £700 each. Having ventured out in a moderate breeze the old sail does have, erm - handling characteristics! At first I thought it was just me... Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade the sail 1st (2nd hand I suspect) then add the carbon boom later. Mario |

You must have about the last 'old rig' left in the UK ! The switch to the current rig was made nearly a decade ago - all the advice you need is available on the Blaze CA website and/or join the Blaze forum and you will find all the support you need some of it 'local' - there are plenty of boats north of the border. If the sails are fully battened you have the 'original' ones - you will need to change at some point. Although todays standard sail is smaller than your larger original it was a right pig in anything more than a light breeze. Don't try and work it all out - bite the bullet and dump them !. Booms have also been carbon for a similar period but you may find someone who has a old spare alloy one they might sell. However alloy booms will break in time and not just on the Blaze ... hence the switch What is your sail/boat number ? Mike L. |

Hi guys/ girls As a recent Blaze convert I need a bit of advice. I have 2 sails and booms - both Sobstad and fully battend but of varying sizes (about 6 inches wider at the foot and nearly 1 foot wider at points along the luff). I know about the Mk 1 vs Xrig but am confused about my sails. Secondly, one of my booms has snapped and been repaired - I'd happily swap the fittings to a new piece of alloy tube - any ideas of the spec and where I could get a piece? Thanks for any help. 10kgs at least but then surely that would be a class altering step. Mine was not the heaviest Blaze I encountered indeed until I engaged the 100 I thought it was relatively light, but at this time of life, getting a hernia just trying to lift the nose clear enough to slide out the trailer is not high on my need list. But then our launch necessities are not everyones, it must be joy just backing the launch trailer into still water and floating the boat off.. [/QUOTE] |
