Pabs:
It's the same organising committee and race committee as at the Babbacombe Nationals which were a great success.

Royal Torbay have helped a lot as they saw the cost of the event and have gone out of their way to cut their costs.  The event really has had costs put up by having to fly in, feed and accomodate 5 Jurors from 4 different countries for the duration of the 7 days.  Without these the event couldn't be called a World Championship.

I've sailed at a World Championship in the Tasar Class before and the £350 + entry fee felt completely insignificant during and after the championship when I was considering the quality of sailing and social side of the event.  As Ross put so well, that was the sort of event that I work during the year to be able to spend my money on.  The organising committee are working very hard to make sure that the 2011 Worlds will be just the same.

300 for a weeks access to a top clubs facilities, a load of socials, launching and recovery, saftey cover, storage, racing and on top of that you have all the ISAF bells and whistles etc ect. Sounds like they've just subsidised your sailing holiday! All you have to do is turn up, pitch your tent and have a good time.

Who sails to save money anyway? Who goes on holiday to save money? If you want a cheap international event, you picked the wrong hobby. Perhaps you should try the Scrabble world championship.

Quit whining, grow a pair and go sailing. You work for a reason, and it's to spend your hard earned on buying and doing what you love best in this materialistic and consumeristic world we live in. Most of you, I'm sure, deserve it. BAM!

Who is hosting it in Torbay? If it's the Royal Torbay YC I doubt that the cost is due to the venue. I have helped organise 2 Nationals nearly 15 years apart at the RTYC and both times they were really easy to do business with and the fees they charged the Association was more than reasonable. If anything I would say they undercharged compared to other clubs.

Then you're hanging around with the wrong people. The sailors I meet and
myself all put quite a lot back into sailing.
Also, I don't know anyone who expects anything for free.

Sounds like a wildly unfair generalisation.

I agree it's not the point wanting something for free I have never been to a sailing event that was free? I have done many nationals and a couple of worlds and they have all cost a lot less then the stated amount. I wonder whether it's because of the venue the reason for the significantly high entry fee? Rather than the other cost's? I Did the Tasar Nationals at Babbacombe and it was a great and well organised o and significantly cheaper. Am i right in understanding that you have to do this years nationals to qualify for the worlds or is that wrong?

Well put Neal, i agree completely.  I would rather pay the money and get a top class event.  I'm not sure how often the Taser worlds come to the UK, but i should imagine its only once every four years! Do the maths and work out how much you would have to save each month.  This is after all a WORLD championship's (isn't it) i suggest people look at how much it is to enter even a local motor sport event!!!

Keep up the good work Taser boys, I'm sure it will be an absolute cracker!

Rick are youdoing the world in your new investment?

If you read the whole thread I think most people feel the same ... there are a few gripping but I guess there will always be gripers.

Having been involved in running major events myself it gets on my wick a bit the gripping.

If the event was not subsidised by a huge number of volenteers then the entry fee would sky rocket.

The last championship I organised used 35 members from our club; none expected payment and all gave their time with good spirit. I assume most other championships are the same.

Just think what your entry fee would be if those 35 people needed to be paid.

Our sport, despite external perceptions, is very cheap indeed because so many events are run by volenteers.

its sad i find that most of the people who sail want everything for free and dont expect tohave to put anytihng back. the simple fact i find is i sail for pleasure and race to become the best and dominate the world i wish. but if you want to be world champion in your class you pay your money and enter. whatever the price of the entry to the xyz nationals or whatever say £300 you get a weeks sailing at a top venue with proper race management and awesome socials and the chance to rub shoulders and chat to the best in the world. now you take your car to the garage for a service a spotty mechanic says come back in 3 hours and charges your £450 to tell you your car works and he or her has err done stuff that needed doing. i know where i;d rather spend my money and feel i got something for it.

Thank you everyone for the interest you are showing in the 2011 Tasar World
Championships.

I am surprised that it is generating such a heated discussion. If someone really wants to come to the event and
they think we are charging too much would it not be better to talk directly to us than to discuss it in a Forum. We
can and will work with people to help.

At the moment no one is sponsoring the event except the worlds team through their huge effort organising the
event (finding judges, organising: sailing, five social events, dinners, and prize giving. Finding good quality
accommodation for maybe 320 people...),. Its a huge task and they are doing a great job.

Sponsors are very few and far between today. Sponsors need to get a lot more than we can give them for their
money now. The people paying for this event are those who want to host and to enter it. The way some of the
Tasar members are behaving is not helpful to the event or to themselves.

We are easy to contact you can find how to contact us on the:
Contact information page, please do if you have any ideas or
requests.
