At renewal time every year I phone my home insurers and say I am going to cancel. It is amazing to see how quickly £200 is taken off my renewal premium. There are so many introductory offers around it does pay to cancel or threaten to cancel. Pity it is not the same for dinghy insurance. |

It does depress me that I have to chgange insurers or whatever every other damn year because they come back with crazy prices if you stay with them too long. But what I'd probably like to see more would be *wholesale* price maintenance, so that you know that if a vendor is charging you more its because they are taking an extra profit, and not because they are being ripped off by a wholesaler/manufacturer who charges the big chains half price... Maybe it would stop the supermarkets ripping off the poor damn farmers too. Edited by JimC |

I've often had occasion to curse the Consumers' Association (Which?) and their campaign to abolish Retail Price Maintenance all those years ago. In those days, competition was confined to the manufacturers/importers, and the retail trade and we punters could relax. You could buy from wherever was most convenient, safe in the knowlegde it would be no cheaper round the corner.; nowadays every significant purchase involves trawling round for the best deal, then all the hassles of mail order ("Sorry, you were out", returns policy etc.) |

Yes I am "THE" Matt Jackson... just not the one you are thinking of. I (or more correctly my parents) claimed the name 2 years before him. I'm not a Touring car/motorbike or aircraft racer either. |

I got my Casio Sea Pathfinder watch back in 2005 (maybe from Argos)... I'm pretty certain that I paid £25 for it then. I guess that not everything has gone up! |

Think mine was less than £15 delivered (from a shop with warranty) from eBay... I would still class that as poor value though as (IMO) they're ugly, complicated and fragile. As soon as someone can assure me that Optimum Time has sorted out the quality of their watches I'll buy another of them... from Ronstan. Edited by Matt Jackson |

If anyone wants a 330mm x 20mm basic (no d-ring) velcro strap as a replacement I am still selling some on ebay for 99p each! Just search for velcro watch strap 330mm and you should find them. Longer than normal straps so go round drysuits better

Welcome to the world of bulk purchaser discounts... I would not be suprised if Argos are selling at a fair sized profit at a lower price that most sailboat shops can buy at... |

It gets worse though- on the Purple Tuesday email in my inbox & news piece on this site the watch is advertised as being £19.95, but if you click on it, it is £19.99. A tiny difference, but still potentially breaking consumer law, no? |
