The odd thing is that the AC gets so much more coverage and money than any actual match racing world champs. The attraction to the billionaires must be that there is no limit of how big their wallets need to be, or their egos, whereas in an actual sailing event, you soon run out of things to spend money on (by their standards, where new sails/hulls don't count as anything but small change), as the event has passed. Here, a small matter like the event being over needn't get in the way of the spanding, or even the result.

At least it'll prove sailing is a truly 'enviromentally friendly' sport!

Love it!

At least Bertarelli has won it....

Ellison could not win it in a fair fight, sorry several fair fights, so decided to bar every other competitor.

Don't get me wrong I don't like Bertarelli's behaviour either but I too worry what Ellison would do if he wins.  Mind you the same applies to the other side....

We wait for Monday.......

I think the most likely 'next move' will be Ellison returning to court demanding a ruling that any team not 'owned' by him is automatically disqualified from ever entering the AC.

I cannot express the amount of disgust I have for this man; he has manged to virtually single handedly turn the AC clock back 30 yrs to the 'old days' when the NYC ruled the roost - before Alan Bond & Australia II came along.

God help the AC if he actually wins (sorry, that should be 'buys' or perhaps 'steals') it - I can seriously see it disappearing - maybe that's his aim ? That way he gets to keep the cup forever !!

Mike

Its a shame about the music as you miss some proper commentary when the boat breaks in two.

Try this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0ClIx8-L3M as there are some great lines including the immortal line “the boat is turning into a banana

Oh and don’t forget that France 3 broke its mast on the same day…

I reckon as soon as they wind these boats up to full power for racing something like this:

will occur, then there will be another bout of legal action for no understandable reason.

I can't see that there will be a swift 34th Cup.

Whoever wins on the water it will be the courts that decide who ‘wins’ and therefore has control of the next Cup.  Unfortunately that’s going to take a while as Justice Kornreich has said the sails issue won't be looked at until March and that does not allow for any new suits or the various appeals that they can go through.   It could easily be another year before all legal avenues are closed.

Only then will there be clarity for the next round of farce to start....  what type of boats........ where will it be.... who is running the racing....... how many teams will be allowed to compete... under what rules..... will anybody else be able to afford or be bothered to take part.  The list of variables are endless

Its going to be a bun fight that will get dirtier and dirtier during the next month (or longer..)

That said I can't wait to see the outcome on the water....  I just won’t hold my breath for the next Cup to start

James if you've got any pics please post them.

I've got a feeling that any post cup court action could be overtaken by a swift 34th competition. I'm in favour of any thing to get over this latest one.
