Not sure what my personal best is, but I did 2km in 7mins 32 on Monday. Maybe we should start the Y&Y 1 minute challenge?! |

Winter sailing's not allowed where I sail (inland on a massive lake called the Ammersee). In fact it's against the law (Nature Protection So I just go to the gym 3 times a week. 2km rowing in under 8 mins, 20 mins cross-training, 15 mins on the "grinder" hand peddling and then the usual quads, latissimus dorsi. etc. and a bit of floorwork. bisceps etc all get trained from the X-trainer/grinder so that's quite covenient. |

I think having a second sport is very useful.
Sailing tends to make you strong but tight... I have recently taking up Taekwondo, which is doing wonders for my flexibilty and also helps co-ordination... both of which are very important for high performance sailing! |

I cycle back & forth to work all year round - not
tremendously far - about 2.5 miles each way I suppose... but that's enough when it's p*ssing down! I also do yoga which I'm really getting into once or twice a week. Saturday morning is a swim before brekky at the local school. Been doing that for about the last 15 years or so after a knee op...then along to the bakers - fresh crusty bread & the paper I was really amazed how after
having flu over xmas, felt I was getting over it & went for a bike ride, just how absolutely knackered I was when I got home.... Sure takes it out of you....

I'm a bit stuffed at the moment, since I have suspected torn cartilage in my wrist. I would usually go to the gym but lifting is out of the question. I can't ride a bike because that flexes the wrist the wrong way, and my shins don't take kindly to running. I don't expect to be anything like fit enough for the contender when the season starts - I already know I'm going to miss our first couple of opens - to the point where I'm seriously considering selling the boat, then upgrading when I can sail again.
I sit by the front door in the morning waiitng for my mri appointment letter to arrive..... (It wouldn't be so bad if I'd gained the injury sailing something decent in the heat of competition, but it was the club's RS Vision. Oh the humiliation!) |

I tend to exercise my fingers playing Call of Duty 4 :-) If
parents refuse to see reason, and do not believe me when I say that playing a games console is good for your fingers, its rugby, fitness training at school, cycling or weekends away hiking somewhere. Edited by Mister Nick |
