Just for the record the Maffolli rope isn't that expensive!  I however choose not to use cheap kit, my boat is my pride and joy i like better looking rope etc. because i am proud of my boat, not only that but i have found the maffoli to be the best rope for the job, it is smoother and bends easier and suits me and my boat fine!  One criticism i have with it is i find it retains more water then i would like.  Therefore wouldn't recommend it for spinny sheets.  I'm guessing you want as lighter/thinner sheet as possible without cheese wire like tendencies. In this case i would probably go for 5 mm excel racing, it tends not to absorb loads of water and is fairly light.  My only criticism is it feels quite stiff!

A Laser II sailor a fashion victim  I don't think so.

The situation is this: We where going to get a different boat for better class competition but decided to wait a while cos other single trap spinny classes for light weights don't command massive fleets either (2 old farts wouldn't look good on the 29er circuit)...so the long and the short is we have a little money to spend.

We are (as mentioned) oldish farts with associated joint aches, a tendency to tendonitis in the elbows, my wife has painful fingers on one hand as well  (this is starting to sound really sad )

Fed up with soggy heavy spinny sheets destroying the spinny in the light stuff.

I use fusion on the mainsheet and does feel good. I have always been very picky about what equipment I use for any given activity, It's just the way I am

I'll check out the excel light though, thanks for that

Unless your a fashion victim, dont bother with all the fancy cr*p. Get yourself some bog standard Marlowbraid for your jib sheets and Excel Lite or equivalent polyester cored stuff for the spinni sheets.

It'll cost you less than half what you'd pay for fusion, with no significant drawbacks.

On a Laser II there is just no point spending money on exotic ropes, the loads and friction just arnt high enough.

Ok they arnt the same type of boat but Sten is I believe using marlowbraid rather effectively as the mainsheet on his Musto Skiff, an advertisement for cheap rope if ever there was one.

Hope you had a good one.....

Unfortunately class rules don't allow a taper, my main considerations for the spinny sheet are weight/water take up, stretch and as little resistance through the fairleads as possible.

I've found the full spec for the Maffioli but I can't find it for the Fusion so struggling to make my own comparisons

Sorry guys been on Holiday, yep i would recommend the maffollli stuff, The Marlow Fusion has a core i think which the Maffoli swiftcoards doesn't,  i have used i on the 300 Main sheet for about a year now and its great stuff.  For the kite sheets i am guessing you probably require some kind of taper and in this instance i would think the maffolli stuff is going to be heavy and a pain to work with,

Thanks Dave, the Maffioli is quite a bit cheaper so I will probably go with it. I've been tying to find the fusion full spec sheet but with no luck.

Im sure merlinboy will be here to recommend the maffioli, and tbh i agree with him completely! Ive used it as the mainsheet on my B, and the thinner version as kite sheets on previous boats and after it has been work in its fantastic to use. Cant comment on the fusion.

Looking for some new spinny and jib sheets Quite like the spec of the marlow fusion bit pricey though, I use it on the mainsheet and like it but I don't want to fork £70 without some consideration. Maffioli do a similar rope...

...anyone have any views on these ropes or maybe there are other alternatives?
