The Solos have a both a Sea Nationals, just had a great week at North Berwick with East Lothain YC, great sandy beaches, easy launching and short sail to open water, and an Inland Championships which taking place at Rutland 5th and 6th Sept with a free training day for association members on the 4th. It is hard to find something to suit everyone, but we try!

A vote for Looe. Good Sailing and great for the family. |

I think it helped to be female at Porthpean - they pulled my boat up the ramp with a tractor thing!
I like Medemblik too - though you are stuffed if you capsize, because it is shallow. Worst ever: Looe - a nightmare drive through the town to the seafront, clubhouse never open, no space for anything, walk through town to change in a tiny changing room, excessively expensive to park, with no choices. I always reckon Paignton to be excellent - well run, good sailing, stuff to do, plenty of good camping. |

I'm off to Hamble in a couple of weeks for the Fireflies, and rather looking forward to it. But then the kids are going with Grandparents to France, so the family part isn't a factor! Well over 50 entries so far, so it isn't putting too many people off. PS I'll give my views of the venue after! PPS For the sailing, I love small inland venues, but they don't work so well for a major event...for the atmosphere, give me a Firefly Nationals at Mounts Bay or Abersoch, but that just might be old memories of 100 pint weeks coming back...I'll be lucky to manage 10 pints this time! Except tide! It also has weird waves owing to being on a vast yet relatively shallow inland sea. |

I'd go for for Falmouth, I never fail to be impressed by the place, both Carrick roads and open sea. Teignmouth was good as well. But I havent been everywhere yet, so I look foward to visiting the other places named here. Internationally I'd say Medemblik has everything. I find Hayling frustrating in a number of ways. For all of it facilities I alway feel as if im in a sausage factory.

i was really inpressed by sunderland last year. Stunning sailing, sheltered launching and friendly club. Other favourite venues are abersoch and pwllheli because they are close, great sailing venues and have plenty of space. Dont like weymouth as its too business orientated. There is no character or friendliness to the place. Can a poll be set up with this many options? |
