I sailed the elite at the early stages when just brought out. I did find the early boats had a few issues that needed ironing out! We had to put so much rig tension on one to get it to point that it ended up bending the gunwhales in under the loads... Rs have since added reinforcement to the chain plate areas and added spreader bars to rectify this as I understand. |

I think they still have a M24 as well- but dont think they currently use it. They have 3 M32s and 1 M20 |

The Red Team have both a 32 (its currently 4th at the worlds) and a 20 which was helmed by Rurhidh Scott at this years Scottish Series straight out of the wrapper. they may possibly have a 24 as well?

I'd have thought you'd struggle to find an Elite for £10,000?

I really like the look of the Viper but very hard to get in the UK and budget really goes to about £10,000

There is a Melges 20 in Torquay- 'Red' belonging to Joe Woods. Amazing bit of kit- in a different league to a SB3- but so it should be it is significantly more expensive.

Elite is a keelboat, SB3 and Melges 20 are sportsboats. Not the same thing at all. AFAIK there are no Melges 20s in the UK at present. It's going to have a tough time establishing itself now against the SB3. Melges also has little marketing presence in the UK. It's a different situation in the USA and Italy as neither has a comparable established 20 footer fleet and in both Melges has a strong brand presence. If you want to kick wildcards around, the Viper, produced by Rondar, is arguably the nicest and most reasonably priced of the 20 foot sportsboats but equally has no UK presence to speak of (one boat at Cowes). |
