You could always do the easy thing and buy a Tornado. No F18 can compare with that, just the quickest and best boat out there and they are going for good prices.

I believe Stuart has one for sale..... It has just won the Forts Race by a long way!

ITA I think you are both right and wrong with what you say. I totally agree that I would pay a bit more for a boat thathas good build quality over poor but the big three have to be the Hobie, Nacra and the new kid the Shockwave. All have got good results and are similar in price and of equal build quality......Also I wouldnt read to much into the Nacra taking 2 years to win. The worlds results are slightly distorted due to the conditions on the final day.

So I would sail each of them and see which I would prefer to sail. Once you have chosen the hulls then specify which fittings you want eg Harken or Ronstan.

I would pre-fer to pay £14500 and get a boat with build quality second to none, rather than £13999 for a boat that what i see isnt the quickest any more.

look at how fast she already is, not nacra 2 years to win

The problem comes when people get tunnel vision, they find one manufacture they like completely ignore the rest, these are normally the people that get left behind!

There nothing wrong with using the product you trust but if you don't even give the others a chance you may well miss out on something.

Iv used these new ronstan obit blocks and they are amazing!! Light, strong and sexy and with that new traveler like system on the running block you get even less friction. Give them a chance, you may find that they aren't so bad after all.

Anyway do really thinks Rob White and Yves Loday would ready kit out there boats with a load of crap, don't think so!! These guys are the best in the business.

Doug, I'm sure the fitting are probably Ok, so I don't want to single them out or indeed name them, but they are definately not Harken, a company who's product i've put unquestioned faith in most if not all my sailing life.. the added bonus of an absolute no quibble replacement warranty on things like ratchets and travellers speaks volume for their product and their service.. I know others offer warranty but none so comprehensive as Harken.

Adrian, what a good idea... I'm lead to believe you can buy the infusion in basic spec (still harken though) for just under 13k and upgrade to a race spec for about £700 more..

Or you could just go up to Rob White, offer him £14.5k for a new Shockwave provided it is fitted out with Harken or whatever is your choice and see where you end up.

What are these fittings you don't like? Most companies have come on a long
way in recent years so I can't believe they would be that bad.....?
Unless of course it's R.W.O, in which case I would whole heartedly agree in
staying the hell away.

Yep, exactly..

I've not sailed a shockwave but the results do speak for themselves.. My issue is that for myself I need the reliablility of top quality equipment, the blocks, traveller etc.. If I go out and spend £14.5k on a boat then another £??? on blocks etc.. the cost is adding up.. for me its much better to buy the boat that comes with the kit or at least the majority of it already..

Yellow Streak,

What do you think is wrong ?

I think the hull shape and front beam mounting is a big step forward.  Don't like the blocks?  Change them!  I've been sailing cats for 30 years (feck!!!) and I have a setup I like and I replicate this thru boats I sail.  Supplied deck hardware will not suit everyone.  Change it!

Wanna learn to Ski - PM me..

i personally found you posts to be unjust and a bit harsh as i said thats why i said i couldnt be bothered to argue with you.
