go for the 400 you will never get bored, or fat! the 2000 is a dinghy to retire too ( just before you buy a wayfarer)

I think the 2000 gives the widest usage out of the list |

I have both a 400 and a Laser2000. The 2000 lives on its trailer, goes around all the Open Meetings, and gets sailed on the sea / estuaries (average wind strength 3 to 5). The 400 lives at the club (Burghfield, next to Reading - inland lake), gets raced against other 400's at the club, and is used in average wind strengths of 1 to 4. Both are fun and exciting. If you have a less experienced crew, then the 2000 is great: and if you want more excitement then get along to an Open Meeting with 30-40 boats, or race in a force 6. The 400 would be getting to be too much of a handfull for me and my crew in a force 5 to 6: but does have the power in a force 1 to give more fun than the 2000. |

NS14 - no kite, but somewhere between RS200 and 400 performance wise, and much the smallest (easiest to handle) sails of all the boats mentioned. Best of the bunch by far to sail on your own, and much the best boat in terms of how good it is to sail. Don't let the lack of kite put you off, it is much quicker than a 200 on a reach. |

out of the choices, has to be the 2000, but have you considered a comet trio? proper boat to sit in with a good size assy for learning, and give it enough wind, anything can be fun. |
