You can buy G4 sealent with UV protection in it, which would seal the wood no problem. It won't do mush for genuine gaps, though, as it goes on like thin varnish. If the water is getting between the logs, then I'm thinking a sikaflex type sealent would be better, followed by a wood treatment. In that case, though, I'd have thought a traditional water based shed type treatment would be easier to put on.

As said before epoxy won't like being exposed to sunlight 12/7. There must however be a sealant designed for this very purpose. I think some of the vintage guys use something called G4 sealant (Designed for ponds) on their boats, that may be a better solution but i know nothing about it. Edited by Paramedic |

Would that count as a pimp? Epoxy-coated log cabin?

Epoxy is a) very expensive and b) not great when continually exposed to sunlight. I'd look at more conventional alternatives.

I realise you can't sail a log cabin but I'm after some info on epoxy coatings. We have a log cabin at the end of the garden. The rear face of it receives the majority of the weather and when it's particularly wet and windy we got some water penetration. It occured to me that perhaps I could coat the rear of the cabin in the same way wooden boats are. Is this a practicle/economic solution (would need to cover about 3 square meters) and how much of a job is it? Many Thanks |
