Splicing dyneema

   my smallest splice ever was on my Micro Magic, on 0.11mm dyneema fishing line which I use for most of the control lines, stays and sheets. did that with a very very small sewing needle, looks neat though compared to messy superglued knots!

	Get some wire, approx 1.5mm dia and bend the end over with some pliers and then squeeze the hooked end as flat as it will go with the pliers. Hook the dynema over the wire and put a wrap of tape over the join and then splice to your hearts content. As has been mentioned you can use a standard fid with 3mm but it is a bit tight and time consuming as you have to milk it through a couple of mm at a time.

	go get ur nans knitting needles out, nick a small dia one and clamp it up and drill it out. silicon lube the fid and send it down the hole easy peasy

	My smallest fid will cope with 3mm if your carefull and I think thats a 4mm fid but past that or if its a particularly tight braid I swap to the needle - so its right on the borderline. The needle is only good between about 2-3mm however so im not sure its really worth the investment. Any smaller and you have to start getting creative but most stuff is possible - right down to about 0.45mm If you dont have a propper needle a bit of wire (old coathanger?) and some tape is your best bet. Ive had good results with biro inner tubes in the past aswell.

	I have found i can use a 4mm one just abit tight i couldn't with 2.5 though so it might be slightly too tight if the rope is slightly off three. Bit of wire i used for 2.5 so that should probably work for three

	How do I go about splicing 3mm dyneema. I have the smallest Marlow splicing fid but that only goes down to 4mm. Whatever I try, I'm struggling to get the free end back up through the centre of the line - there must be a trick to it!
