if scores are tied after medal race, medal race result breaks the tie rather than countback.

Guys a question I need answering about Ben's points gap on Zach.
He has a 12 point lead so zach needs to get MORE than 12 points clear of
ben to win gold?
If Zach were to take the bullet in the medal race that adds 2 points to his
score so he now needs ben to be MORE than 14 points behind because on
tie break ben would win thanks to the bullets he's got behind him?
So effectively wouldn't ben have to be 7 places behind zach, e.g. zach
1st-ben 8th for zach to take gold??

Either I'm missing something or both richard simmons and the RYA
website can't do maths. Simmons said something about Ben can't finish
more than 4 boats behind zach and the rya site says he cant finish more
than 5 boats behind. But my reckoning says he can be up to 6 places
behind and still get gold. What am I missing??

That's the most frustrating bit of the whole coverage - look at today... no sailing in the medal race and yet action on the other courses.  Ok it was important to watch the medal race even though it got canned in the end but  why isn't there an option to get pictures on from other courses even if course a is rubbish..

I think the funniest 'simmondism' had to be in the 470 M race 6.. when 3 boats we're ocs'd and thrown out at the top mark...and obviously sailed off the course..completely missed...and then he kept going on about some boats would be scored OCS, despite the fact they were no longer racing...

Sad as it is, we sailors are in the minority.

Besides that, what happened to Percy on the last leg, one moment he was 3rd and when I came back he was 7th

I don't buy that excuse - some of the camera angles aren't great but this is still the best actual footage from the games yet.  More to the point - most competent dinghy sailors could find 10x more things to comment on in each shot than simmonds does.  I get the feeling he doesn't really sail too much himself and has spent so much time presenting the sport for non-sailors (as sailing seems obsessed with doing, to its detriment) that he doesn't really understand the technicalities.  In the medal race today there were a number of rule 42 penalties which went uncommented (despite being in full view of the cameras) and many many other commentatable (?) details.

Pity Chris Law is no longer around - His AC commentating was technical, dramatic and funny.

He went left down the run......so did the portuguese who lost one place, and Iain seemed to go further left than them.
I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!

outside chance: RS:X, 49ers, Laser (W) , 470 (W)

Tornado / Star - no form to call, but watching Robert Scheidt round mark 1 race 1 a total of 4 minutes behind the leader, shows now much of a nightmare Qingdao is..

Official target is 4 medals.

As you say, 2 in the bag now. Dempsey is getting better in every race, so I think he'll make the top 3, and the laser is so wide open that Goody has to looking good now he's at the top. I think Nick and Joe will hold on, and I fancy us to get one more (Iain and Bart maybe??). So my guess is 6.

Bigger question is can we beat the Aussies? On current positions we have 3G, 1B, they have 3G, 1S - could be close!
