I agree with Dave, an attendance table should be of the number of boats attending. The number boats to finish a race at the nationals should be in the "number of boats to finish a race at the nationals table". |

My class (Vareo) had at least one sailor who entered but didn't sail due to ill health. However, he was there, helping with the launching, hoping each day that today he would be well enough to race. He was there because of the health of the class - it was worth his being there just in case he felt well enough to sail, because he has never sailed against that many Vareos at tye same time before. Unfortunately, he didn't get to race - but has tried to get everyone who was there to promise to be back next year, so that he can sail against 50 other Vareos! http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/photos/?s=64&PID=22697 Edited by ChrisJ |

The figure I use for the Y&Y nationals table is the number of boats that have started a single race in the championship. If the championship is combined with a Europeans or Worlds I only count British boats but if it is a Nationals and open championship, I count all boats. People will (and do) have differing opinions of what constitutes attendance at a nationals, but this is the figure we use and we are consistent with it. I check every figure we put online and think we're pretty accurate at the moment. As always, would like to hear your thoughts though! |

If people have bothered to take their boat to bits, drag it across the country and pay the entry fee, then they have attended, IMHO.

Obviously its wrong for classes to lie about the correct numbers but i think if that amount of people turn up and sign up to race then they should be included even if they do not complete a race.
For example a 200 from my club signed up to race at the nats but because of a combination of low crew weight and young crew age they felt the conditions were too much so they didn't race. I think the number of people that commit to coming shows the welfare of the class |

Is it fair for classes to include boats in their attendance at the nationals who dont even race. this implys to me that you could just add any old name to boost numbers and make your class look bigger? For example if 27 entered and only 23 boats where classed as raced is it right to add another 4 boats to your attendance list?
