Very, very good! In fact, we only had Simon's boat, the white one, on at the time. Otherwise it could have been a different story. "Chinook lands on Cherub. Chinook disintegrates in a maelstrom of tortured aluminium and shattering plexiglass. Iain decides to mix small bit of bog to mend dink in foredeck and gives up realising he only has his bigger epoxy syringes with him..." |

So if I had not moved the truck, the worst that could have happened was some bent rotor blades.......misty film fade to scene..... composite rotors hit composite cherub at warp factor snot. Blades and cherub shred (some rejoicing)Local vicintiy is sprayed with fast moving splinters of carbon. Small child innocently enjoying a walk by the seaside licking an ice cream and looking all cute is maimed, her lab puppy is sadly killed. Irate parents give interview in News of the world and Daily Mail demanding the menace that is Cherub sailors to be driven into the sea (without bouyancy aids) along with the nasty aasylm folks. Labour goverment responding as usual to headlines passes law (hidden in small print of a law about changing the working hours of lamplighters and apothacaries) outlawing Cherubism. All former Cherub sailors must be put of a register which the Sun campaigns to be made public. Cherub painters are driven form the homes in a mis-understanding about spelling, whilst the cherub committee raids parliment demnading rights for development classes, before being arrested and deported to France........so I bet your glad you moved the truck now aren't you???

It went a bit like this. To close the Royal Regatta Week the Red Arrows are due to display at 1800 and there were supposed to be no vehicle movements on the Quay two hours either side. So we were advised to load up and park on Daddy Hole Plain (great name...not) about 1/2 mile away. So three vehicles went up, and whilst some people parked close to the gate, I parked a bit further away, whilst telling my sailing chums about how much better an angle I had to swing out of the gate, and how I was unlikely to be hemmed in by other vehicles (although in my defence I never mentioned anything about helicopters...)
OK, I did see something on the grass as I parked this...
![]() But what I'd seen as this...
![]() Was in fact this...
![]() And if anyone mentions the fact that a) I was driving a Land Rover Discovery on 265/75/16s and a 2" suspension lift, thereby giving me a similar perspective to a helicopter pilot, or b) I am not yet a licensed pilot, but I am nevertheless signed off for solo flight within an airfield circuit, then they are going to get a slap.
Yeah, so I was well chuffed when I got the call, realised what a numpty I'd been, realised how knackered I was going to get to walk all the way back to the truck (again), and oh how funny I thought it was when I got there and in the meantime the park ranger chap had arrived and put out lots of "Danger-Helicopters-No Parking Over There" signs everywhere...
Oh, and I'd just like to point out that I was not actually on the cricket pitch/helicopter pad, just nearby. So if I had not moved the truck, the worst that could have happened was either some bent rotor blades, or some small ball-shaped dents in my truck (delete as appropriate) Edited by Iain C |

Iain C parked his Land Rover and the 12ft skiff in the middle of a Helipad, only a few feet away from a 20ft long H painted on the field. I was asked to phone him to move it as the helicopter would be there in 5 mins!
