The Shark is a design from Rod MacAlpine Downie, and is a 20' version of the Hellcat C class Cats that dominated the early years of the Little America's cup. She was a rival to the Shearwater iv in the mid 60's. The Shearwater iv was the "B" class version of the Shearwater iii, with added sail area to bring her up to "B" class max.

She does look dated compared to the Tornado, but that is mainly because the Tornado was pretty much the first of the Catamarans that modern day boats are based on, so "the look" is familiar. In comparison to dinghies, very few of the 1960's Cat designs have survived, to it is great to hear the Shark is thriving across the Pond.

Not really an expert on times but the shark is about 5 years younger than a shearwater 3 -  also ive never heard bout a shearwater cat until nessie brought it up, the shark does look somewhat like it except it doesnt carry a chute - the shark is 4ft longer too

it does look like a shearwater - bit bigger?

In my opinion, a good boat is one with a good following... it's fun to race a bath tub if there are plenty of people to race against!

Yes, but not because it looks dated.

It does look dated...but that is no doubt because it is. Doesn't make it a bad boat though! Take no notice mate. RFT is an RS200 sailor with occasional trips out on a spit in anything under a F3. He does hold the record though, for the funniest beach capsize  (must be the time of the month)

Still looks very dated against the original Tornado which won the IYRU B class trials.
