Well, that's it for this year. It's been a long day...

Mark and I woke up at 3.20am, left home on our bikes at 3.45 to catch a bus that would take us to Clapham Common, leaving Madeira Drive at 4.30am.

The bikes were transported in a lorry while we boarded the bus and made it to Clapham Common just after 6am. Since we had a 6 o'clock start, we joined a queue to get through the start gates, and we were on our way at about 6.45.

The ride was reasonably quiet at this time of day and we managed to cycle up all the hills (later, they get so clogged up that you have to dismount).

2 other Lancing SC members were supposed to meet us at some point, but a delayed start placed them at least 1/2 hour behind us and they advised us to keep going.

We made good time and didn't have any problem on the way. A sharp stinging shower cooled us down towards Haywards Heath but the sun came out soon after and we dried up in no time.

We rode up Ditchling Beacon and arrived at the top with a great sense of achievement and sore legs. The long downhill of Coldean Lane got us on our top speed of the day: I was flashed by the speed camera at 42.4 mph and, when I told one of the police marshalls at the bottom of the hill, he beamed at me and said "Well done!" Now, that's my kind of policeman...

We passed the finish line at quarter to twelve, after just over 4 and a half hours riding time and a few pitstops and cycled back home.

A quick shower later, we were on our way to the sailing club and enjoyed watching the afternoon race, talked to everyone, got our girls back, cleared up, locked up and said we'll do it again next year!

Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement (texts during the ride, sponsorship money, emails, etc.) and, who knows, you might want to join us next year!

cya,

xxxx Isabelle

We're almost there!

On Sunday morning, when most of you are still in bed and some of you are staggering towards it, Mark and I will be cycling from Clapham Common to Madeira Drive in Brighton, in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

Heart disease is one of the biggest killers in the UK and even bright young things like you guys can be affected by it. We all know at least one or two persons who have died from it.

If you want to make a difference, you don't have to give loads - every penny counts, as they say. Click on my sig to give online or, if that's still playing up, send me a PM and I'll give you our address.

Even if you don't want to give anything, have a little thought for us around lunchtime, when we'll be arriving in Brighton and having a rest before heading for the sailing club!

Mmmm... I wonder if we could make it in time for the afternoon race...
