I will have a look and get back to you!!!

When i first started to sail a Byte I went for a 3:1 with a decent rachet block and after a couple of heavy wind sessions I went up to a 4:1.  The loads seemed remarkably high with a 3:1 so I can see why a smaller Bytist might want a 5
1.  Mind you I was using thin rooster main sheet which means your working hard to grip the mainsheet.  However I wouldn't go fo a 10+mm mainsheet as it'll take to long to get in and out.  I'd use somewhere between 6-8mm depending on your arm strength.  Don't worry too much about having too much rope, the distance between the blocks and the boom at its max out point is pretty short (hence the need for a high purchase).  I'd guess the you'd need about 10m at most for a 5:!.

As for the mainsheet swivel jammer.....bin it, bin it now!! Repace it with a rachet block on a spring, you may even be able to recycle the block on the jammer if its a functioning rachet!  Then put a jammer cleat on each side just aft of the traveller cleats. Any other questions just PM me.

I have 8 or 10mm on the Blaze (8 if memory serves) on a 4:1.

It may be worth pseaking to the class to see what they recommend either that or take the rope out the jammer arm and sail it (I am assuming it is that and not the block that is broken).

Finally buy a good quality ratched block, you will not believe the difference this makes. I have a Harken manual rathced on the Blaze works very well for me and I am no gorilla.

As for buildiung up arm strength spend about £30 on one of the gyroscopic powerballs (available from the Y&Y shop). 5 minutes a day with it on each arm, you will noitce the difference. I did!

A faaaarrr smaller diameter!  I used 7mm on the 600 and same again now on the musto.  Fat sheets dont ease smoothly enough for my liking.

Yes it does seem like a lot.  It sounds insane but at the moment its harder to  pull in than a RS200 1:1.  Now it could have something to with i have a 10/12mm  mainsheet [it came with the boat] and a busted  mainsheet jammer [it jams agianst the block].  Bascially i dont want to buy a new 3:1 mainsheet and find out its still a nightmare to pull in.

Sure i'm a girl who is vaguely small, but i regularly sail, surf and wakeboard, so i'm not that weedly.

Any other suggestions to solve the problem - dont say the gym cos i live in london and cant afford them.

A Laser has about 2.5:1 (but to the end of the boom) so I'm thinking 5:1 seems a lot.

Alex it might be good for the ergonomics as well!

The mainsheet load will be reduced but there will be a very large amount of rope to pull in when luffing up so turning round the leeward mark will be very slow and there will be quite a lot of friction to overcome when bearing away, so in light winds it will need a hefty shove on the boom to get it to go out.  A Finn normally has a 3:1 mainsheet!

I'm sure there may be a good reason for it, it just seems you would be multiplying the amount of rope you pull potentially unnecessarily...

Exactly what i was thinking!  The 600 and musto skiff only have 4:1.  And i find it hard to believe that the byte is going to have a higher main load than either of those.  And dont use the arguement, 'but you have got a cleat to take the load' because there's plenty of 600 sailors out there cleatless and no they're not absolute bisons to do so!
