Just re-read my last post & thought I aught to point out that we weren't sailing a Cherub!

Good point. Didn't two guys in a Hobie do a transit of the Northwest passage in the late 80's?

We met two completely mad French lads in a Hobie 21 in Casablanca who were cruising down the coast of Africa with tents & sleeping bags in the hulls. They were running into problems off the coast of Morocco 'cos the swell was over 8m (making beach landing a bit too exciting) and the ports are over 300miles apart on the Atlantic coast!

I dunno if they made it to Essaouria as we went straight to the Canaries

Frank Dye crossed the North Sea from N. Scotland to Norway in a wayfarer. This was ages ago and the boat (a wooden wayfarer called 'Wanderer') is in the Falmouth Maritime Museum.

Frank & his wife Margaret have written a couple of books about their adventures, including one about crossing the North sea. He described a storm where he took down all the sail, lashed himself to the benches and was rolled repeatedly for hours. Pretty amazing stuff!

Wayfarer, tank of a boat, you will be stuffed if it capsaises (unless you get the world version), but that doesn't happen.  Douuble hander though, so you will need a crew.

Hi, I'm the yachts man from Latvia. I want to cross the Baltic Sea from Sweden to Latvia (Riga port). And at the moment I would like to hear some suggestion about what dinghy do I need to choose, that is strong enough and with good sailing abilities in open sea. I want to try my self in storms too on the dinghy. So at the moment I think to do that with Laser class boat, but maybe somebody can suggest something better?!?!?!
