I think Dart decided it just was not going to sell so built the Hawk instead.

The Dart 6000 was out about '94. There was a problem with the long rudders which were meant to compensate for the lack of boards. The rudders flexed and also the angle was wrong when the bows dipped and the rudders tried to lift the transoms and steering became very hairy - especially in gusts. A new rudder system was built, but it was too late. Reg and Yves developed the Hawk and Laser bought the whole package from them.

I see a Stealth for sale here: http://www.stealthmarine.info/index.htm

Good point I somehow suspect that carbon beams will not be being penalised

Right people.  I have information that I cannot share (still I am afraid) as the proposal has not been submitted to the ISAF yet.  Some of the group were at the conference in Finland a few weeks ago, and very good progress was made.  We do however have it very nearly finished and we are also confident now that this will be adopted.  HOWEVER we cannot publish it until we have finished it and submitted it.   We are still on schedule for an approved (ISAF) rule for the start of the Northern hemisphere spring season.

Did anyone think we would be banning Carbon beams ?  I hope not, that would be silly as every modern A class would be in the bin - I don't think that would have been too popular !  The reason my F16 has carbon beams is to try to get it down to weight.

will be intresting to hear changes , thought we were to be informed of what had been submitted , seems not to be,

its a big  secret!

I expect us lesser mortals  will only nkow shortly after first race of season has started ,

Lets have  a competition to see who can guess whats to happen , winner gets a choco watch .

It has to be secret until we submit it.  All of us involved in the detail have proper day jobs - I was up at 5am and will not be in bed before midnight tonight.

We have done a lot of testing of the rule (to ensure it's fair, and this it is behaving in the way we expect) and we have also spend ages working out how to make it work.  We are trying to make a good rule, and this takes time.  We are trying to plug some of the gaps in the rule.

As far as the boat I have bought, I have been very carefull to ensure that the other members of the group who are designing the rule are fully aware of what I have done with the boat, and the reasons why I have done it.  One of the major things we have done is to change the rule to reduce the benefit from "designing to the rule", we are now trying to encourage designing "good" boats, not boats with "good" ratings.

If you want to speculate on the changes, please do.  I cannot confirm anything yet.

To what end Catmandoo? Why just these items? If you are going to do that then why not a free-for-all on mains, hull dimensions and boat width/weights etc as well? Cat sailing would then be just one massive development class then?

How about

schrs has finally realised the unjustness of handicapping fat blurks in excess of 100kgs in a formula that represents their weight as 75 kgs  and will be in the future allowing fat blurks n skinny to self declare in hcap events , subject to imprisonment for those that tell porkies .

Give free for all on board depths n ratios , similarily for jibs .

Don’t suppose it’s worth asking what it might be NEXT season on the new dimensions?

Skegs and Dart sails may well be the way to go if your looking for a competitive boat on the new handicap in 2007!

Maybe we should look at the boat those in the know are buying/have brought  this winter if we are looking for a clue
