I think his haul this year is the best ever.

Don't know which individual you're talking about but would have thought the crew had something to do with that one.

Yes, crew contributions are critical but not the same crew in all events.

Purely for the sporting challenge…
He had a Musto Skiff for a while and they have Hyde Sails.
I wasn't aware and perhaps I'm a bit jaded and cynical in my old age, but I had anticipated that North would have discouraged him from entering.  I would love to see how well he would do in the 200

Maybe so but still a quality fleet, have you ever won it?
That came across a bit harsh!  I wasn't denigrating his achievement.  I just thought it wasn't quite in the same league as his other results this summer.  I am his Dad's generation and spent plenty of time watching Alan's transom disappear into the distance.   What Tom has done this Summer has taken it to an even higher level and is an amazing achievement.

Well now you know he sailed a Hyde powered SMOD just for the challenge.

Sailing is the only sport that I know of where the less talented get to share the sporting arena with national, Olympic and world champions. Anyone can be beaten - occasionally - even by me, but to put together multiple championship winning campaigns takes skill, talent and hard work.

At this rate he will have all the entries at the endeavour trophy and no one else to race against!

I think its unmatched which is why I raised it. I don't believe Nick won 4 (5 if Tom retains Streakers) in one season. It's so impressive, I don't think anyone could say its pot hunting these are top classes with very good sailors.

There are so many classes in the UK there are many the average sailor could win. I've been top 3 at nationals a few times and its almost embarrassing because deep down you know there's no top sailors and I'm being a pot hunter!

As a Solo sailor that did Carnac and watched Merlin Week from the race box I think Tom’s performance was impressive and I think those who sail these classes do so to sail against the very best, they are not there to win in an easy fleet.  In the case of Merlin Week there was the chance to race against three Olympic medalists who Tom beat fair and square.  There are few sports where the average Joe can compete against those at the top of their game.  The Calvert’s were second by a point and I am sure that they would not object to being described as true Corinthian sailors in a relatively old boat sailed consistently well n challenging conditions
