Absolutely - it has a trapeze as well. So when you are a little full after lunch, you don't have to stress your stomach ;-)

A thing of beauty! Gimballed glass holder for the G&T and wicker picnic basket strapped to after deck? |

...and a lot heavier to lug up the beach than the Moth. One of the attractions of the tunnel hull Moth for me is that in light airs you can heel them over to reduce the wetted area, and indeed downwind, heeling them to windward. You can also dial in as much risk as you like just by how you heel/sail it. The Vortex, by contrast, is just a small cat, and in the light stuff you just sit or stand by the mast, going slowly, while in a blow you come off the wire very painfully when the boat nose-dives under kite. The antics of the scow Moth, on the other hand are just harmless fun - plus it's easier to right.

I wax and wane over the Blaze as my next boat, I sail on an inland shifty light wind lake with a good Blaze fleet. Like the boat but the sailors seam to spend a lot of their time in their knees (knee pads appear to be the norm) and there seam to be many variations, same hull but lots of upgrades which just sounds expensive to me. |

I have (but maybe I'm easily satisfied) I love the Blaze, it does nearly everything I could wish (comfy for a float around in a drifter, exciting but not 'too exciting' in F6, fun to race and great to just blast around in). The Spice is sufficiently challenging to be something I'll never master (I know it's pretty tame by skiff standards but two wiring is enough a challenge in itself for me and it does still have a little bit of 'beach cred' up here in the wilds of North Wales) and I've had a ball with it in the last ten years, it's 'my boat' and am not yet ready to sell it.

The best thing about sailing is that every day is slightly different.
I know there are people who's food bill is paid by us changing constantly. Staying in the same class can be good too, if you have chosen the right one. |
