Yes I’ve done the first bit of work to capture vid of the same incident from different perspectives to illustrate how sailors perception of a racing incident begins to be shaped before the incident begins....

That's a perfect example of the "invisible gorilla" effect; we humans are amazingly bad at seeing what we don't expect to see. 

My wife is a neuroscience who got her PhD in visual perception. She is actually involved in a science road show all about illusions but her reaction to the pic was a classic example - she completely missed the cows, but she noticed how small the A Cat's rudder T-foils were!

We looked into this sort of stuff at uni and it's one of the things I bear in mind when I'm on protest committees or tense situations on the water.

Very good guess, but not correct. The owners of the As recently moved from the Clarence area and club back to the family farm near here, inland near the town of Armidale. Our club is on the local reservoir, about 100 miles inland and 1040m above sea level. It's the top sailing club in the entire continent......if you measure by elevation.  :-)
