You're probably right.
And yes, that does matter anywhere where you sail against current.
Also, anything only 10ft long is going to suffer in some wave conditions.
ISTM that a big issue with a whole range of Antipodean boats is that they are designed around LOA limits or LWL limits and suffer because they are shorter than the boats they are racing against.

It's great to have a kid's boat that will go really fast when sailed well in a breeze, but if it puts kids off sailing in light air, it's not really going to help much at most UK clubs.

Self tacking jibs are fantastic, except for how quickly the sheeting angle slackens as you ease the sheet. The further you can get the jib car from the jib clew the better you adjustment will be and the less it will blow out as you ease.

Also, if you want to see impressively tight sheeting angles have a look at the TP52s!

I love my old boats, I grew up with Ents and OKs, but it's swings and roundabouts and, really, it only matters on handicap, skiffy things can't sail to their PN in the light but stuff the trad boats when it blows, you takes your choice. If you have class (or even 'type' racing) it doesn't matter if all the boats are slow in the light if they are all fast (and nice to sail) when it blows.

BTW some Ents used to have jib fairleads made from 3mm ally 'cos the minimum measurement was from the CL to the inboard side of the fairlead fitting!. If it had been specified to the outer turning edge then standard fairleads would have been fine but some considered the extra 20mm/1º to make a difference......
It certainly did to the life of the jib sheets!  Pointing is critical in Ents, so it was one of those things you had to do.  The rule itself was ludicrous.

My Mirror was like a different boat when I moved jib fairleads in board.

Nothing unusual about a centred main and tight slot.
Anyone looked at a racy cadet recently?
Remember mirror enterprise and 420 to name but a few jib fairlead positions are stipulated by class rules

Think that these were ideas pushed by Bob Ross over 40 years ago.  A lot of these Antipodean concepts ... close sheeting, dagger-boards, loose foot mains found their way into the UK development classes in the mid seventies.

Majority of sailors like to look at these boats and watch them being sailed, but don't want one themselves.
