iGRF,
I wonder sometimes if you get the dinghy sailing thing  Confused it's all about sailing and helping each other, not the bottom line or 'same old same old boats', sailing is very individualist.
Sailing is Mozzy taking the time to do his videos, Ruperts years of driving Minisail class and training sessions for minisailors and other classes, we all know people like these, that for me is sailing  Smile

Biggest problem would be the supernova, solo and stayed are stayed rigs. where as a lot of single handers are unstayed.
A 60mm rig for a solution or supernova would be far to heavy compared with the current CST, Super Spar or Selden which are more like 45mm.

Which it was tbh, but, it's not as daft a suggestion as it sounds, for example, take the D0 rig which is a superb set up, based as it was on Dans steampunk boat which was another lovely rig, now stick that on a Supersofa, or a Solution, in fact you could stick it on pretty much any single hander around 4 mtrs length included the ubiquitous Laser, wether you chose to stay it or not it would do the job of providing what rigs do, the engine that powers us along.

The point to all this is the fewer the options, the more the numbers, the more the numbers the cheaper stuff becomes, so if we all (mono rig s/h sailors) standardised around a given mast.......

And maybe we could elimnate the need for a rudder on these boats by standing up and supporting the rig ourselves and moving it about to steer? Oh wait........

You mean, like a SMOD?

Or a class approved supplier like the Firefly?

That would work.

IF the boats all had the same form stability, the same apparent wind angles and speeds, the same wave penetration characteristics, the same righting moment, the same wetted surface, the same structural layout, the same shroud base width, the same forestay angle, the same mast step layout, the same planing characteristics, the same cockpit layout and associated fittings layout, etc. In which case, the boats would be so similar you don't need two of them.

Yes, of course you could switch rigs around if you were willing to compromise. But that would require someone who was not hyper-critical of almost all things to do with dinghies.

I would prefer a standardisation of things like rigs and rig parts with the uniformity driving down the cost of ownership.

So, what is the cost of an H2 mast for instance? How much does the excess of that cost increase the price of the boat for the builder/supplier?
