Hi All
Has anyone got a decent predictive spreadsheet gismo I/we could have a look at please ? We'd like to run/check some additional number checks for the new boat .... I suspect that's not the optimum way to go for an OD class. If a boat carries say 25 stone perfectly, there won't be much penalty in stacking a bit more pork on it, so the optimum weight rises. I think one of the reasons the RS400 has worked so well is that heavy people are punished a bit by it not carrying the weight quite optimally, which offsets their extra power. It's a matter of how heavy optimum weight is and how wide the band of weights which will be more about skill and tactics than weight. |

Err, how many sails?
Presumably 2, judging by the lack of a bowsprit hole in the pic? Looks quite wide? More righting power than the Icon? |

Well, I think there's a strong argument that 14 feet is too short for a modern two hander. If you consider that both a finer bow and less rocker is desirable than 50s and 60s design then if you want reasonable weight carrying then you need length. If you consider the 29er, for example, you could describe the general proportions aft of say the daggerboard as being those of a 12 foot boat, but with a much longer bow. The 49er too, is very like a 14ft skiff with another two feet on the front (OK, maybe 14'6 and 18").
So it makes complete sense to graft more length onto a 50s/60s era development boat to make it into a one design from the point of view of getting an intrinsically nice hull shape that will carry the desired weight, and as a bonus it gets loads faster and better mannered as well, so its win/win. |

So it'll be a renamed MG14 then... another derivative of an NS14... why not just support the AUS class to expand into Europe rather than rehash a great box rule development class into a one design to try and line your pockets.
