Perish the thought. I just think that sometimes people should agree with Grumps and be nice to him. It leaves him wrong-footed.

I'd go with the Fisherman's knot. Easy to tie, never let me dowm and then some tape over the ends to tidy it up

If snagging not an issue, I use cable ties to hold loose ends.

Is that a polite way of telling him to get knotted?

More half hitches. If you can't do knots do lots. Plastic tape over the top of everything.

Chinese finger trap the shock cord inside the cover, secure with a couple of sewn whippings?

Thanks. It will be permanent as it will be inside the mast. Tried sewing a loop last night. God was it hard to get the needle through! Gave up. The double sheet bend holds up well as the bungee contracts on the other line when pulled tight.

When sailing in potential shallows I put a doubled up length of shockcord in my rudder downhaul. The double sheetbend has always done the job well.

If temporary, agree with double sheetbend.
