I suspect that someone from P&B will be at Northampton so why not give them a call and ask if they can bring a pair in the correct size along for you. I never use Sailboats for a variety of reasons. Ask for Tom Stewart, he will know who is going to be there.

Thanks for the advice.  Problem is there are no chandlers in the Manchester area that stock Gul boots (only 1st Mark left after the recent closure of Mountain & Marine).  Having said that we are down at Northampton for the RS Inlands at the weekend and the forecast isn't filling me with hope that we will actually sail, so a visit to P&B or Sailboats may be possible.

We looked at the Windward and the Evolution.
The Evolutions looked a bit clunky and I was sceptical of the claims made of the superior sole material & the boy chose the Windwards anyway purely on street cred.

After nearly a year of hard use from the boy including dinghy park football, general horse play and running round like a loon as trolley dolly & gofa at the Laser masters (shingle beach) the uppers & all the glueing are 100%, the soles are showing a little wear consistant with use.

I bought a pair of Clarke's, yes Clarke's for use with the jolly old death bag of joy, but I notice they are no longer around which is a shame as they function quite well, the rest of the time when I have to, i use Oneil Splitties, i can't stand wearing boots, but long boards and dinghies seem to necessitate it, my feet hardly even got tanned this summer, I feel so wretched.

regarding hardwearing soles- the Ronstan Boots have an almost trainer sole base.  Not for everyone as they are pretty stiff and solid, but I do quite like them in full on winter mode over a drysuit.

In the Summer I have a pair of Zhik slipper thingies... mainly cos the toestrap was too uncomfortable bare foot.

Rooster boots were the only kit my son would wear out before he grew out of them. The soles would wear through, especially at the big toes.

We both use Gill hiking boots now, and they seem to last well.

Gill Hiking Boot for me, decent support, thick enough sole to walk on the shore, tread does not wear out too fast (got through a pair of Roosters every 6 months), quick to get on and off.

I bought the all purpose gul boot. Plenty of width. Had the crewsaver version before that, which seem very similar.
