On the results list at the bottom, it shows everyone getting 68 points for a non finish, whether DNF or DSQ. Is that normal now (and presumably for a while)? Seems wrong that a retirement scores the same as a disqualified.

They are a great boat Rupert, really benefit from the extra length over a Laser and aero/zero. it takes a while to work out the rig especially if you have just climbed off a soft sail una rig.

Most newbies say they don't point, but thats because they are doing it wrong, they will climb up and over a laser if sailed right. Also have a very wide wind range as you can cant it back when it gets fruity. That point alone allowed me some very good series results as with one rig I could depower so much and therefore keep the same entry all series.

The semi soft sail una rig market has lots of competition - solo, lightning, streaker, phantom, laser, zero, aero etc etc. And whilst I expect Hartleys had a bit of a hiccup, its still a unique boat in the sector being fully battened and relatively light and long. The only other una rig boat that remains unique is the Blaze with its racks.

Hi Jim
I disagree here, on a windy day when you go out complete one race but break something in the second a DNF can score much less than a DNS happened to me and would have bought me up about 6/8 places in a Nationals.
Petty I know but being able to say you made the top half rather than not quiet is good for the soul.

Default series scoring in RRS I think. Practicallying by the time you are counting letters in a single Regatta series the odd point or two is probably of limited interest...

The Supernova has shown that it is possible to improve a class without killing it. It helps that there was no "gap", where no new boats were sold, which produces a situation where you can either buy a new boat or something costing a tenth the price, but nothing in between. Now, if they'd just offer a choice of sails, one fully battened, the other not, but still the same size, then I'd be tempted. As it is, they appear to have a lovely light wind hull shape with a medium breeze sail put on top. I would say strong wind, but most have been rolled in by then...

and good luck to them for stimulating the class growth by doing fair trade ins and up-sells.

They're well built, and they are sold directly into a vertical market.... club racers.

The dns/dnf/dsq thing is the default setting in sailwave. We are just trying it at our club and this is one of the things we are going to change when we use it for real. We agree with you Rupert and think people should be rewarded for starting.

What they probably haven't told you is that they are also offering very attractive deals to Mk 1 and Mk 2a owners who want to get a new, lighter boat.

Great boat, great turnout. Did wonder how the launches of the aero/zero would impact their boat sales, glad to see they are doing ok.
