In which case, I'd not expect a swap allowed in either direction, so if crew ill no sailing either. That is the logical conclusion if fuss is made, not that the crew race with a stand in for what is, I assume,a ranking event.

Well a captain and an actual crew is one thing a two person team especially one where both parties play pretty equal measure in piloting the craft is something else.

How many people can name all of Ian Walker's crew on Assam? I know we need to give credit to all onboard, but that isn't the same as a free for all on entries, where the rules are presumably written down for all to see.

Odd to turn down an entry for an event not full, but that is different.

As for the other case, will that mean I can enter a women's event? Or maybe a junior event, as that is ageist?

In some ways I can see that having put the rules in place, however dubious you think they are the organisers have no option but to apply them.

Not that it makes it any better but sailing is not the only form of competition that fails to give full recognition to all team members. First that comes to mind is Motor Rallying, apart from those really interested who could name the navigators to the hot drivers?

So it was the 'helmsman' who was offered restricted entry to the event and got ill...
The organisers would not extend the invitation to the 'crew' who would now helm...
Apparently they expected the event to be oversubscribed so had limited (by entry condition) to 40 boats...
According to the facts found by the protest committee, in the 'helmsmans' abscence the place was offered to another boat...
And how many boats are entered... That's right 32! Clap
I can so easily see this heading to the CAS in Lausanne.
I thought it was Sepp Blatter who got the fair play award this month.

And a massive row down in OZ about a girl helm and male crew entering a male only event, this time backed by a gender discrimination lawyer, that's going to get bloody.

There's a bit of a row going on, on Facebook about a girl not being permitted to race at Weymouth I'll try a cut and paste, links to it don't often function that well...

Mateo y yo queremos competir!

“A CREW CANNOT CHANGE THE HELM,

IF THE HELM GETS INJURED.

CREWS AND HELMS ARE NOT EQUAL!

WE THINK THEY SHOULD BE!”

Tomorrow starts a date of the world cup of candle on Weymouth to which our team nacra has classified. Unfortunately Santiago Lange is not going to be able to attend for health reasons but I have travelled with Matthew to be able to compete. After an order of repair to perform this replacement, isaf, wrongly, has decided that this is not possible because the helmsman (which is to whom you will adjudican all of the points in the ranking) can not be replaced. To attend this championship you need classified and, according to the tradition of isaf, which classifies is the helmsman and beyond who is the crew member. Now, if the case was reversed and I should be replaced, there would be no problem.
That is, without doubt, a great injustice to the flight attendants. In fact we went 2 two in the world of the class sailing together and we succeeded in each of the points for this classification together. We all know that the importance of a crew member is equal to that of the helmsman up the ship.
We are in a stage of our sport in which the team is the one who wins and I do not see why the crew member has distinct rights to his partner.
Matthew and I would like to compete!

My views have always been that helm and crew are equal in high level competition and as such should be named together, but that's not the way it is sadly, but this could be the start of a movement for change, maybe?
