Post something in haste, delete it later - better than leaving it there, isn't it? Better would be to have a think before posting, but we are all guilty of not doing that, I'm sure.

I think it is bang out of order to publish comments like this on public forums. Fair enough have a moan to other competitors and if you get interviewed then say you felt the the race should not have been run.
They always have the opportunity for redress if they feel the RC actions disadvantaged them remember. Unless of course they left launching too late and were late over the line causing them to get timed out at the finish....

Tom Slingsby has made similar comments although not so rude. It does sound like the conditions were tricky on the day but a number of boats did finish the race so there is no reason why they should be the only ones. The ones that didn't got it wrong. If you read the conditions wrong on a more straight forward day you will get a result down the back, just a shame for them that the ones that got it wrong didn't make it to the finish, or even to the start in some cases. Red faces all round for the olympians and AC sailors who are quite rightly a bit embarrassed. Still, it does not excuse rudeness towards a race officer who provided a race for those who were smart enough to make it round!

Paper on misconduct presented, by Bryan Willis to the ISAF Racing Rules Committee in 2006.
A competitor, in a website post referred to protest and appeals committees as “incompetent” and “lazy” and said “Any a**hole could put the two facts found together, as well as it was a sad realisation that the supposed experts needed to be led through the course of events like little children being led across the street” The Disciplinary Commission held that this was totally unacceptable and is clearly a gross breach of good manners and sportsmanship. but did NOT bring the sport into disrepute. The Disciplinary Panel's Decision is well worth a read Key things about commenting on a protest committee's decision:
So any reasoned discussion of a protest or appeal committee's decision, even by a party, provided it avoids bad language or abuse, and provided it is not expressed in some inappropriate context, such as allinternationaljudgesareb**tards.com. will not breach rule 69. Key things about bringing the sport into disrepute

Oh dear! Another case of a young professional not understanding the impact of uncareful tweets. These Oracle boys are going to get a reputation!

My personal rule, again from team racing, is to have a lot less sympathy as the level of the event goes up, they should know better.
