exactly, given there is often concern laid as the door of the DSA over the standards of Cat D drivers becasue of the number of 'in house' assesors working for the bus companies it is a valid concern.
exactly asnd as you suggested above the tight control over Dinghy Coach/ Assessor, PB Trainer / Examiner and windsurf Trainer is part of this Qa process. |

There are no commercial Coach Assessor courses. This helps keep standards up both in coaches themselves and also in DIs and SIs.
The National Sailing Scheme and Youth Sailing Scheme are a best effort at maintaining standards and portability across the teaching of sailing, sometimes let down by centres that hand out certificates far too readily. Commercial self certification for this would be a nightmare.

how many commercial Coach /Assessor courses are run ? as the RYA imply that Coach/Assessor is something they control quite strictly
http://www.rya.org.uk/coursestraining/coachestrainersinstructors/pages/dinghycoachassessors.aspx ditto with power Trainer and Advance examiner, Windsurfing Trainer commerical run Measurer training any one ? that could go one of two ways - either ridiculous fees and waits or far too many poor ly trained and it ending up like the joke that is PAT for plug in eletrical stuff. |

therer is also the stuff like measurers , and the training that needs to be done at egional / national level to get decent numbers to do it ( or would you rather that be conducted by commercial entities for hundreds of pounds per delegate per day )

Scotsfinn - you wouldn't happen to know why sailing wasn't a commonwealth sport, would you?

Certainly in Scotland they represent the Sailing and Boating fraternity at numerous levels and with unstinting attention to detail.
They consult on everything from safe and regulated navigation, to environmental issues and onto issues involving the Crown Estate and Government. They're supporting the growth and development initiatives for marine tourism throughout Scotland. Oh and also they organise thooosands of kids and adults into learning to sail, they support clubs (and club development) and even the dreaded yoofs development and performance coaching. This year they put on the best sailing party of the year - the Commonwealth Games Flotilla - 250 boats, a party for 1500 people and then a cruise up the Clyde to Glasgow watched by a rumoured 100,000 Maybe that's not bad for a small management team and whole load of volunteers ........ Well done RYA ... you don't alwyas deserve the battering you get form the chattering masses. |

I think the N12 was one of the ones who preferred to keep the class rules as they were, rather than fitting in with the new format. The idea that the 2nd oldest existing National class (I believe - after the 14, which became International fairly quickly) should actually not be one at all any more does rather answer the question of what it means any more - not a lot.
I know that some of the National classes were set up by the RYA - the National 12 foot and 15 foot one designs, for instance - after the war to encourage participation, but others like the MR Albacore and Graduate had it bestowed upon them. |
