Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

I'd love to be light enough to be able to sail a merlin with a crew
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Well there is a clear difference, you earn money for sailing boats.
Rodney confirmed above nick paid for his d1 and his recent new sails.
Definition of ISAF sailor categories.
He doesn't work in the marine industry.  I can't see where he gets paid by anyone, personal expenses? Again, he always turns up in his clapped out Mercedes.

I know he is a harken ambassador, but short of getting discount on fittings and cheaper sails.  I am pretty confident he pays his own way.  As such is not a pro.

Because of my links up with suntouched, I guess my ISAF definition I am a pro, so much so that I could not qualify for the amateur prizes in the d1 class.  I don't mind, I find it funny that someone as frankly average as me is classed as a professional.

It's such a funny sport we find ourselves attached to, even if I was as good as nick Craig, I would never be able to earn a living sailing.

Anyway we digress, I think it's great that the merlin fleet demonstrates some of the greatest amateur sailors in the uk.  I would love to own a recent merlin and even be able to mix it with the big boys!

I'm not saying he pays the same as you and I, but in my opinion he is not a professional and by nick Craig's opinion he is not a proffesional.  To the point he got a little upset at being branded so at a d1 event!
By ISAF classification I am more of a professional then Nick, which is frankly mental!

I know Nick, I know he considers himself an amateur as he no longer sails full time.

I would consider Laurie Smith an amateur, he funds his own sailing, NC is an ambassador for some major marine companies.

I am a professional, I earn money for racing boats and I work in the industry and I admit as much I don't claim to be amateur. I'm not as good at dinghy racing as I once was. Even still I accept pro status as per the rules.

I can confirm that, IMHO, Nick is no professional and bearing in mind that he paid top dollar for his D-One and, subsequently, for new sails any such suggestion are unfounded!

Presumably you could argue working for a marine industry who give you staff discount could be classed as sponsorship? Sounds like a heck of a can of worms, lol

Yep and it's fully flouted...!

Let's use ISAF clarification as the basis of what is and is not professional.
