The B14 class also have a good go at the party side of things western was enjoyable for me.

The boom of doom is an evil thing and ought never to see the light of day again. It was the Sprints a couple of years ago and directly led to me not sailing at all on the Sunday.  Dead The Admiral Boscawen (or whatever) was a fun night too at the 300 Nationals - the only nightclub in Looe with the stickiest floor I've ever had the misfortune to encounter. Going as a group of 5 with only 2 of us sailing the next day was probably also a mistake.

Next weekend is the regatta at Whitefriars. Live music Friday and Saturday nights, lots of sailing in various forms, piles of food, and I'm sure much booze before retiring to the camping field to sleep.

Ho yes Paul!   My irresponsible parent days at Southport! Your brother and the absinthe, the 'boy' and then my beautiful  daughter climbing the tent poles. She made it right to the top with hundreds of people cheering, then fell off demolishing about three sailors on the way down.

And back on topic;

The Tasars down here have a tradition of serving champagne and cheese at the end of each day's racing. At championships you sign on and get told what day you are rostered on to help pour the bubbly or do the crackers. Although the class is generally composed of respectable professionals, the parties do get interesting, particularly because there are so many women sailing.  Smile

Ahhh, happy memories!

I like opens at events where you can camp onsite. Keeps the beer tokens where they should be, in the bar, not at missus Miggins knocking shop pretending that its a B&B.

Stone, now theres a great venue, Camping on site and a captive audience, there's nowhere else to go. we the Phantoms got complained about keeping someone awake on their yacht on the river at an unsuitable time (and he was a phantom sailor too). People appearing at various locals houses trying it on (allegedly) as guests and a well know fellow falling over tent guys ropes at 4am. Only know the latter as kept awake by about 5 people snoring at very high volume after a serious nights partying. Watching guys pogoing to a shadows tribute band was weird.
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Back in the day when Lyme Regis SC used the old isolation hospital on the end of the Cobb as a clubhouse, it used to get very noisy every Saturday night, as nobody else could hear. Lots of songs about threshing machines and pigmy tribes....

Come to Thornbury SC this weekend, you can camp for free with stunning views of the Severn Bridges, drink as much cheap local beer as you can and sail at a sensible time of day (post hangover).

Thanks MM

Back to the topic.

We had fun all day in my Lark days, not just at the bar. One year, we were on a Beach Boys phase and, travelling independently, agreed to meet at the top of the drive to Graham, then appear in convoy, windows open, Barbara-Ann at full volume and drive around the clubhouse roundabout several times.

Inevitably, he was late, as he always was. But so late that everyone else had launched as I wandered up and down the beach, kit on, plaintively calling out his name.

Another time at Grafham 470ing, we got blown off just as we'd all launched. Only time I've even been taken off by a safety boat - we went to help rescue a cartwheeling Tornado, then went back and finally  managed to stop ours doing the same. Later, with my 2 drinking buddies, we ticked the 8 before 8 box. Then got dragged to the pub for a 21st by a bunch who had not yet started drinking. We returned to the club on hands and knees at closing time.
