How about a canting rig hinged off a stable hull? Just apply the gyroscope to the rig.

You could be onto something here! I dont really understand the laws of physics regarding gyroscopes but they do do some amazing things. The latest flywheels have also changed the game as with a carbon fibre flywheel you can have a very large gyroscopic effect ( due to extremely high speed rotor working in a vacuum which eliminates any heating effects) without the large weight penalty that conventional flywheels have, that must run at lower speeds due to their lower mechanical properties. If you want to knock one up in your garage I've got lots of carbon impregnated carbon tow!

A bit of both? Science and dinghy development can't be fun?

I wondered where F1 harvested the energy, so, we could do that from wave action in the vertical plane, not much use to you pond chaps, but face it all you do is create a negative vibe to the PY force so nobody will care what you think..

Is this constructive dinghy development or constructive banter?

Given that the new formula-e cars also have energy recovery from the suspension, I'd think that with a bit of miniaturization either energy harvesting from the rig or the pitching of the hull should be possible. What you do with the energy is completely up to you, but foil trim or kinetics could be worth looking at.

I'm on to the patent office, a Phantom fitted with a Lazy Susan is just too unique a product to ignore.

Lazy susan ain't worth it, we already have pockets all around the boat stuffed with Ginsters (other meat & pastry based meals are available), wherever you fall over in the boat one is in easy reach to comfort you in your minute of discomfort
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

So, a lazy susan for the Phantom boys is going to be the sum total of my genius then? So be it.

you could power it by pumping the rig using the energy from that in some manner. I always thought that this is what already happened judging by the number of people I see jumping up and down on the decks on the start, who then miraculously seem to sail flatter than I ever can

Sadly it won't stop you heeling unless you're twisting it in a different plane - which would take as much force as counter-acting heeling in the first place I guess.  Despite the apparent anti-gravity, the first law of thermodynamics still applies (ie "tha don't get owt for nowt").

Could stop you pitching and rolling tho:  http://www.seakeeper.com/   http://www.seagyro.com/
or at least, convert rolling into pitching or vice versa.

So, Jim.  You were at Imperial in the days of Laithwaite eh?  Me too!
