Does the statistically proven falling Wednesday wind mean that the slow boats win every week?

Or was that bit b******s?

We run our Wednesday night races as a pursuit with start times adjusted to nearest 15 seconds. We all finish at the same time and if the wind has died the safety boat tows the boats in that are furthest from shore so everyone ends up in the bar together. Far more sociable and simples to run and understand.

Gareth T beat me to it.

Dches, all your examples you've provided highlight that your race officers are frankly useless and need some training. Rather than coming up with baseless equations whereby you try to fudge your results why not invest the time to talk to your race officers and get them to run the races properly.

The race officer should be able to finish everyone in the race over a time period significantly less than the time for the slowest person to sail a lap, and therefore everyone within reason should be sailing in similar conditions. You might end up with someone benefiting over one or two legs in a lap but its unlikely to have a huge impact when you average it all out.

Why don't you just let the mirror do another lap, then they're sailing for a more similar amount of time, in more similar conditions?

We're not saying how racing is run at your club is right. because it isn't. We're just not agreeing that your solution is the correct one. If you can't get your club to run an average lap race properly, then how on earth are you supposed to get them to change the formula 9to one so patently broken)?

clearly kneewrecker and others believe that giving people fixed times after doing say 2 laps is fair. when other boat do more.

say a mirror completes his 2 laps in 2000 and a solo completes its 4 laps in 4500 due to weather conditions worsening clearly the mirror wins due to not having to sail and worsening his average lap time.

instead of blaming race offers who at most clubs do it now and again as part of their duty of membership.

in the end no formula will solve this problem
