Inferior  ?  ....    We would simply not make the impressive turnout we achieve through smart organisation alone if the boat itself was not right.    High marketing spend and a lot of drum banging on this and other forums cannot make up for a boat if it is not right or simply too specialist in the long term. When that 'push' runs out of steam, and the keyboard monkeys are off to the 'next best thing'  it is only the core owners who can keep the class going forward ... and they only do that  if the package is pretty much right in the first place.  Wink

Mike L.

PS ... BTW I've never heard anyone say the Blaze was not a true sea boat ... or a competent inland one either for that matter.  The worst  comment receieved in recent years was that the Blaze was perhaps too easy ... well until the individual concerned tried out in a borrowed boat at one of the larger events... but maybe that was not really the boat LOL

Well if that's the facts perhaps the class should shout about it rather than talking about it in their own Facebook group or in the confines of trying to defend itself in a forum thread.

Like it or not the current situation is muddy for those that do not follow the class as much as some others with a soft spot or interest.  That's the media campaign the class should adopt.  The changes are absolutely positive in my opinion, it should be something to shout about.  But I just don't see much from the RS association. If I was still in the fleet I would absolutely be bringing this up. You just need kt look at the excellent work Mike and the blaze class has done (with in my opinion a inferior boat - IN MY OPINION) they have developed the class into so tithing quite special, but kept the development in the public domain.  That way criticism and objection can be handled publicly.

I can honestly say that the 300 not being a sea boat, is certainly not a common theme on this forum.  Please quote the threads.  I would of corrected the poster as much as you, I just think there has been one misinformed comment on/in this thread. Frankly the 300 is great fun on the sea, so the whole argument is a little bizarre....

As you know I am a massive 300 fan, but some of the questions In This thread (or more like statements) are led by people not knowing what's going on with the fleet, they have read statements about rs no longer marketing the boat.  But the PR in the public domain since the transfer to BYAB have been so we hat sparse.  You can't Blaim. People for speculating on an open forum if the class or it's builder is not keeping the sailing public updated.  There is little excuse in these days of free social and online media. So no wonder speculation is of a more negative slant.

There is no denying that the 300 is a simply awesome boat, some of the best sails I have ever had have been in some seriously big waves in a blow ass clenched with cheeks split by the transom corner.  But the class needs to really push the great things it's doing.  Is there a publicity officer?  Maybe a good place to start?

Actually this is the third or fourth time in various threads recently that the usual not a sea boat rubbish has been trotted out.  And in each of the other cases there has been an unwillingness to accept the facts presented.  So I'm not sure there's much point in a media campaign....it's human nature to take the negative.  And might smack of desperation.....

The fact is the builder has changed.  We're still an RS class.  We're still getting a massive proportion of the boats built at events.  And we're still having fun on the best ride since.....censored.

are no fleets at open sea clubs.

We have 15 RS300s at Prestwick. That's a fleet....and it is defintely on the open sea.

They are a blast in big waves!

Well, there were only 2 kiters entered so they cancelled the kite racing for Christchurch.

Tell us again why you sold yours? Lol

He had a dream!  A dream that a fat man could sail an asymmetric boat around the cans on a midlands lake.

He had a dream, that the boat would perform well on a tiny, yet shifty gravel pit.

He had a dream, that this boat was the replacement for the laser.

He had a dream that two rig sizes was enough and that they could sail together in harmony

He had a dream

Sadly he was dreaming, it turned into a nightmare.....what happens when you believe the brochure.

Wink

He does seem to spend a lot of time dreaming. LOL

I see they are keeping the kite as is. Good move. I see the rest is remaining pretty much stock, apart from the main (and the mast change is to reduce costs on new boats). I'd still like to see them ditch the equalisation system for something lighter, simpler and cheaper on new boats, or at least test a simpler arrangement and see what the rest of the class says.
