We have 8 Musto's entered for far for Datchet as well as several Datchet boats yet to enter. I think if you get the chance you'll see that they are far from impossible to sail.

As a former MPS sailor (at Draycote), that shot and that result are extremely impressive.

Nice one Benjo487... cool skills.

I thought it was an excellent shot, though I can see why you'd not think it flattering. It will have had most of us wondering about what happened next, knowing it wasn't falling in backwards. It has made me question my sailing techniques far more than a flat out posey photo would have done.

oh, so your foot is meant to be caught under the boom....I shall have to try that.  It will make a change from having my BA caught under the boom and then reversing off the start line into the next nearest boat. LOL

Great skills though, respect is due.

Sorry ran out of characters. You're spot on 2547, it's about trying to get the boat upright and back in control as quickly as possible. With no crew to dart to leeward the technique is to get upper body in and forward asap. it's not pretty but foot under boom works for me, esp as hands are always full. We get plenty of practice at Datchet of similar sifty and variable conditions.

Hi all, Mark (sorry Neptune) just forwarded me the link so thought I'd better join the forum and respond. Firstly thanks for your kind words, I was a little disappointed this shot was chosen as it's not my finest angle (or expression) but no-one likes being caught by a lull!

He does a little luff, the boat (being nice and light) "trips" on its foils bringing it up right for a moment giving the helm a moment to rebalance and then steer back to close hauled. Simples ...

Note most people would bear away making the boat trip the other way making things worse.

Get the k16 DVD for Xmas for lots of tips.

He was sailing brilliantly every time we saw him at the weekend - a real visual lesson of man and boat in harmony.

LOL, he'll be pleased to know you think he's superhuman. Ben has been sailing like a demon all season.

The foot under the boom is to pull him self in should it go wrong, the other foot is his balance one, he's also in tune with his boat enough to know just how far to windward he can get away with

Now you see when I am in this postion - still hooked on, boat feeling like it's coming over on top of me, foot wrapped up in soemthing it shouldn't....well, it's pretty obvious what happens.  So what happens next to this chap?  Well, he goes on to win of course, but how?  Does he have superhuman powers?  How does he get out of this?
