er, because some annoying folks on internet forums were likening them to toilet seats iirc... anyway, water flushed around the u-bend now, design and aesthetics has moved on somewhat since those days.

Neptune.... well funny!

Bet you wouldn't have said that 4 years ago.

I didn't say i thought the boat was aesthetically pleasing overall, but I am not sure why they deck shape was remoulded to 'look better'.

the next boat will be Tiffany Blue - accented or solid, deck or hull or both - not quite sure yet....

the next boat will be light (D-One qualifies, so would an Icon depending on little 'uns)
the next boat would almost certainly not have a kite and/or stayless (D-One qualifies as the kite is optional for RTC and I saw how fast you went past me once in unarig mode)

the next boat will either:

- have a fleet to race against within an hour (ideally 45 min) of home, the D-One might qualify if OSC gets traction and those Tewkesbury nomads lay down some roots.  (+ If Rodney sorts out 'Little Boots' with a demo, that would be one more in use there)

- or be an IC because they look so nice to sail that racing is not important, and all other choice factors are negated because they are the nicest boat on the planet to simply own and love.  FACT

But, the big decision has already been take- the colour swatch- and Tiffany Blue is it.

Next season is focused on getting into the top 5 of the Wednesday night series, which will be harder anyway as there are three new fleet members who are pretty handy in Solos... I'm working on employing the primary tactic for series improvements of 'turning up more often', then I'll look into diet, fitness, wind awareness and boat handling (in that order)

Anyway, unlike some Solo afficenados, I won't be changing my Solo for another Solo just yet... so no Tiffany Blue Solos...

So you guys appear to have a fleet building in Oxford and another in Cambridge (well Huntingdon, but it's close enough).

Will there be a 2014 Varsity Match?

nope mine was light blue colour deck.

Actually until Nessa mentioned it I didnt notice it was the old style foredeck, maybe the navy blue hides it better?

I think it's officially 'Royal Blue'... not 'Navy Blue'... and yes, I remember yours was a lighter shade now.

A bit pastel shade... which we all know is the best tone to go for on dinghies.   LOL

I think the ugliness adds to its charm... a bit like Bill Bailey.

Well done Nessa- in some ways I think it's cooler to go for the retro D-One with with timeless bad taste foredeck!  Certainly not boring, and the pink kite is a perfect juxtaposition...  is that Timmy's old boat?

Good to hear you aren't just going modern...

I have found that sailing the Lightning has cut down on my time in classics, though - just not enough sailing time to get it all in.

I got various discounts plus it's the old shape, which not everyone wants, but I'm mostly inclined to think it's great value.  There are few boats around at this price, and Rodney will tell you I was poised to pay a lot more.

As for modern boats, I just bought Pete Mcglashon's skol moth for fun sailing, plus Agamemnon arrived on the drive last night ready for his/her fitting out.  Plus I was only yesterday talking to Mikey about the date for next years CVRDA meet.  I just like boats.
the same, but different...

You got one for under 6k? Seems like either great value or terrible depreciation, depending on your view of the transaction.

Does this mean you'll be concentrating on sailing a modern boat now, Nessa?
