i) absolutely, under no circumstances whatsoever sleep in someone* elses sleeping bag
ii) absolutely, under no circumstances whatsoever sleep with someone* else in one's sleeping bag
iii) absolutely, under no circumstances whatsoever cook sh*t food or stint on wash-up when it's your turn

One leg for me this time, will be on the Australia -> Singapore -> China route: https://www.clipperroundtheworld.com/the-race/13-14/leg-5

Thanks for the heads up on the possible negative attitudes. I can understand where their heads could construe a sense of wanting to protect their professional racing image and lifestyle from the encroachment of Clipper's increasing popularity and inclusivity for all skill levels.

At first I thought all boaters were the happiest, most laid back bunch of people since my first experiences on the Chesapeake river near Washington D.C., big smiles and waving to each other whilst on the water and then great comraderie on the docks.  For the most part it is true (from my experience) but then you get that one person who everyone talks about and see that being on water doesn't cure everyone!

Thank you for being so helpful. I will definitely look into those other races after getting through Clipper and attaining my yachtmaster.

Googled the Secret Mens Business and it is a beautiful racer, I bet that is a fun delivery job!

I had an amazing experience in the channel on my first training session, we had stopped for the night and I could not get to sleep.  I kept hearing that 'ping' noise, like on tv or movies, of a submarine sonar. At 6 we are all up and I asked around if anyone else heard it and everyone said I was crazy; until one hour later a massive submarine is breaching the surface near us.

Thanks again for you help and racing recommendations,

m

Good luck with your race, are you going a leg or RTW?

Just in case this isn't an attitude you've encountered yet I think its worth pre warning you. Amongst the racing fraternity there are many who, rightly or wrongly, dont really consider clipper to be racing and you may encounter some negative attitudes.

Personally I have huge respect for what the clipper has achieved and think its a great personal challenge. However if you enjoy it I would highly recommend getting out and doing some 'normal' offshore racing around the UK (with RORC, JOG, EAORA or others) the best bit about it is often you won't even need to pay anything beyond contributing to food.

I'm currently posting this sat in the channel on Secret Mens Business a 51 ft grand prix racer which we are delivering back having just done the Fastnet race and I've only been doing this 4 years.
