And a few people who think their posts are so great they have to re quote them I see..

Don't pay any mind to that Chris249, he got abducted by aliens back in 1970 something and they only dropped him back here recently, he still thinks Lasers and the Original Windsurfer are modern equipment fully acceptable in this day and age.. I doubt anyone has fully briefed him on the thirty odd years of modernisation, not to mention elf and safety and human rights in the not having their knees wrecked part of the right to family life..

That's one phase for it ... I can think of others.  Edit: Just realised who the OP was ... say no more.

At least there are a few people who use facts to back their postings.

As you know Chis this forum is the  'Land of Wild Generalisation' and should therefore be treated with a certain amount of scepticisim. Byte seems popular in the Far East and other places where stature is more compact. Are all Australians not 6'4" from the womb?

By the way in 1999 they were not C2's. The old boats were just small Lasers really.

The Byte is not big in the rest of the world, nor has the world "adopted Byte for teenagers".

I've seen precisely one down here in Oz, so we certainly don't "have a scene in it". The only one I saw was the one I sailed when the CII rig was being developed. There were some shipped out for the 1999? Youth Worlds but no one picked them up and at least one of our team said that they preferred the Laser. I would not normally say that but if people are going to criticise Lasers then they have to expect criticism in return.

The latest ISAF report says that there are 45 boats in the UK which makes it equal second biggest country in the world. Only 8 countries had associations.

Nice little boat, but certainly not "big everywhere".

There's a little bit of evidence that the laissez fair attitude makes for a better sailing scene. Of recent years NZL has had an "encourage International Classes: discourage National classes policy, and there seems to me to be some evidence that the new generation is not as significant globally as their predecessors.

Ouch. Do the interests of countries you deem too small to bother with not count?

Read the thread title.
I was merely wondering if it was big everywhere but here?

Fair do's. Much of the world tends to focus on international classes. Should the RYA do more to encourage us to sail specific recognised class, or is their laissez-faire attitude non-Olympic sailing to be applauded.

Of course the person who should turn up on here is Jon Emmett. He won the Worlds in Weymouth a few years back but was beaten by 16 year old Darren Choy in Canada the following year. Splash is nice pretty boat but slow.

I see you already have a tin foil hat though.....
