Rodney, how about a tribute to Bart, with a Bart Simpson on the foredeck in semi-transparent coloured gel?

Any chance SF can get snappy over the summer- I want to see more of that boat.

And the gel work on Rodder's Finns has been lush, can we get an iCon in similar devoti pimp?

Sorry but been a bit pre-occupied for a few days. We don't do Pimp at Devoti we just do style

Of course we can do most things on all of our boats including the Icon. The Finn class has, for some time, been very adventurous when it comes to colours, design and style. My view, FWIW, is that sailing should be fun and that for me means having a boat that makes you feel good. That, for me and most of the Finn fleet, isn't a white all over boat. My latest creation has the Finn insignia in transparent blue on a white deck as pictured below. If you really want just white that's fine with me also as I am more than happy to deliver all white boats along with the sunglasses

If the boat's not sold before the FOM I will be sailing it there otherwise I will sort out another creation (any ideas?.

Because it wood n't be true!  More plastic than wood here at Hunts, even the ToY is plastic!

Sort of proves the point really.

you are doing yourself a disservice- shouldn't you find one of the lesser spotted from the Nessa flotilla and sell it to them at a greatly inflated price, with some cock n' ball story about how it's the best boat for them?

Yep, that's the idea. For about 15 years I've been using old diver's weights tied on with old string and clanking around in the bottom of the cockpit (among a fair bit of chook poo when the boat was pulled out of a farm shed and taken straight to a race) and now the boat is going to be shiny, it's obtusetotheubermax time. I think I've just worked out a practical AND obtuse way of using a 10 gramme carbon/ti bicycle seat post clamp to hold it all together and allow easy adjustment. Thumbs Up

Sadly the 747 was just being renovated, so I can't use Jim's idea of depleted uranium. My wife's lab is in the physics building but she seems to be strangely reluctant to try to find some full-strength uranium. Can't get dedicated crew these days.

The end caps will be some circles of Nomex/carbon out of a renovated 747.

I need suggestions for ridiculously OTT (but economical) ways to make the end caps removable, so I can drop chunks of lead inside and then secure them after measurement (with the lead back inside!).

Will securing the whole assembly to the pillar under the mainsheet block with titanium bolts look slick enough, or can anyone think of a more high-tech and completely unnecessary way of making an over- the-top corrector holder?

She's also getting carbon waterbottle holders from a bike; if you're going to have 1000g of water then it's logical to save 2g by using carbon brackets, innit. I just realised that I should have bought the streamlined water bottles used for time trial bikes, as they would create smoother airflow over the rear cockpit bulkhead.... as everyone who has used fake carbon knows, every bit counts! Tongue

I was going to use some more of the Nomex/carbon sheet to make a bracket to secure a home coffee machine in the galley of my old half tonner, but sadly I'm not going to have enough battery power to make it worthwhile. We'll just have to revert to a carbon bracket for the manual espresso machine and the titanium coffee whisker.   :-(

Any further suggestions for ridiculous ways to use a few pieces of carbon/Nomex on a scruffy old cruiser/racer will be gratefully received.

There is something marvelously perverse about making a container for lead weights using one of the worlds lightest construction methods.

OKay- on a more positive note, our Laser fleet is still all sailing together, but they've just got enough folks to start splitting results into Gold and Silver Fleet to help spread the love a bit.

- cheap boats
- great racing
- quick fix lifestyle sailing (wednesday night and sunday morning no different to 5 a side or a squash commitment)
- encouragement throughout the fleet
- good racing throughout the fleet

I've not been a fan of a Laser (understatement!) but boat aside, I'v got to hand it to the SAILORS for achieving this.
