Glyn Charles Pursuit THIS SATURDAY

   The weather! 
It was pretty flat in the harbour, but the wind was gusting well over 25 knots with a solid base over 20. Couple that with some long legs and there was a high attrition rate. 

The Glyn Charles is always an 'epic' and this year was certainly an achievement just to get out. I've no doubt the forecast put off a few entries too.

Jim Saltonstall (actual legend) was there to hand out some fantastic prizes on behalf of sponsors LDC/ RS. He shared some memories of the sailors the trust was born out of and gave examples of the talented young sailors it continues to support. 

I think it was fitting that all speeches gave reference Bart. It's fantastic that the UK dinghy scene continues to celebrate the lives some of it most excellent sailors who were lost too young. It really brings you closer to who someone was by being able to enjoy the sport they did at a venue they held close. I'm sure Bart, a sailor supported by the John Merrick's Trust, will continue to be remembered in a similar way.

	Last year the event was won by James Peters (ISAF Youth World Gold, 2012 49er European Bronze) followed by Roger Gilbert (to many class titles to count plus Endeavour winner), both sailing RS200s. Both had also been previous winners at the Glyn Charles in a 29er and I14 respectively. Last year there was a good mix of boats in the top ten (see results). The event always attracts the best dinghy sailors from around the country and supports the John Merricks Trust. The course is usually a tour of the harbour finishing on triangle. The forecast is looking fresh! Who's your bet, what classes will shine? Will GRF actually turn up, he always threatens! NOR race available here and event details here. Who from the forum will be racing? I'll be there in my RS200. Been making steady improvements over the last couple of years but now the RS200 handicap has taken a small hit. Handicap numbers are here by the way... cue endless handicap debate!
