I started on 4.4... well literally started, one short run off the beach and back. Duncan said I did well to even get off the beach at high tide... not quite sure what the issue of launching cross shore is, wade out a bit, wait for flat patch, waterstart and go... coming in was more difficult but I avoided a rinsing, maybe that was what he was referring to?
Changed up to 5.8- most people were on 5.2, but I could carry more for physiological reasons, plus I had a bit of volume under me, even let the outhaul off a bit when it went L&S mid tide for an hour. Paul and Duncan packed up then (they'd both sailed saturday), but as I had a whole day's pass I went out for another hour or so, low water, flat and fast.... 50 odd boards out, plus loads of kiteys standing around on the bar looking up to the sky as their toys danced in the breeze. It was chilly hanging around though, evne put my old snowboard jacket on at sausage roll o'clock I was sailing in a 4mm spartan suit (same as you've got I think) and a thermal rashie, that was fine.... no sleeves, but then I'd sail no sleeves all year if I could- I get far less cramp with naked elbows.

5.8? It was 3.7/4.2 down here and low tide, but bloody winter wetsuit cold, some canoe wallers got hyperthermia when their canoe fell in half up Gravesend way..
June - hyperthermia can you credit it? |

Fantastic weather this weekend folks.... for windsurfing. 5.8m on a 113L board at Hayling... nice ramps and then some great flat water blasting at low tide.
You guys just need to get more toys to make use of whatever the big man upstairs throws at us.

We weren't actually blown off, but I was blown off my canoe... It was just stupidly shifting and gusting and I never really got control of the boat. I'd just decided it wasn't safe for poor little Solos with me out there when a lull dropped me into windward and a big header tacked the boat on top of me...
The really odd bit was coming back to club pontoon... Yelled at someone to catch the shroud but when they saw a sliding seat approaching at ankle height they understandably retreated. Jumped off the boat and attempted to catch her and things somehow ended up with the boat on her side **on the pontoon** at about 45 degrees to wind. I have no idea how that could have happened! No apparent damage caused by arrival on the pontoon but irritatingly lost a bit of paint returning the boat to the water. Edited by JimC - 23 Jun 13 at 11:44pm |

Tips for stopping wooly bits getting sticky, Transient? I put my own on my sail out of little bits of synthetic knitting ribbon stuff that my mum has, and have sprayed them and the surrounding sail with holt prolube, seems to do the job :D

Blown out at Porthpean today also. I did make a trip down to Restronguet to see the I14s, but even they were held ashore due to gale force winds. I wasn't surprised as the Carrick Roads were covered in white horses and the wind was shrieking through the rigging of all the yachts at Mylor. Fortunately the wind abates tonight, so mid week sailing looks ok for us and the 14s will be out. There are 36 of them so should make a fine sight as they launch and sail out to do battle.

Just along the coast from you Grumf and I know that smell although in Hastings it's usually tempered with subtle tones of Kebab, rotten fish and wino vomit.
and Robin is a lucky so and so although I'm not keen on sailing in the rain. (Tips for stopping woolly bits getting sticky welcome) ......we've been to the garden centre
