well you got me... I wiki searched 'Grumpf' and all it returned was that it is the name of a pet dragon from one of the smurfs.... how apt.

I prefer my version, and had nothing to do with either that wiki answers or the wikipedia entry titled Grumpf, or that 'they', wind up forumites, managed to get that entirely fabricated forum identity voted in some global poll as topping Robby Naish as worlds most esteemed windsurfer by some form of hacking, there are a bunch of clever IT types on the Boards forum, or there were, it's quiet there these days, ever since Jimbo showed up to torment them in a revenge tactic for my efforts here.. Wink

Affectionately known as Grumph? Must have written that himself.

Proctor and Paddle - invented by Ian Proctor, I believe.

I was very honoured to have my old Optimist praddle rescued from my Dad's loft and gift wrapped for Christmas this year.... it's been a while since I've owned a boat that can benefit from one of Proctor's finest inventions.

Oh just a thing instead of a praddle, if you swing your rudder up level with the surface and swish it from side to side it'll skull through most stuff, it's standard practise in the Alto when the wind drops totally and there's a tide running. Best use the shaft not the wiggle stick thing they snap off, it can be quite hard work especially if you have a long one..

Don't you just love sticking it to Merlins?  I so very nearly beat one over the water in light weather once he just got me on the line.

Damn I'm going to get some stickers made to put on the hull once I take them out. My new sail's ready, just got the phone call today, it's getting delivered Sunday down the lake, I can't wait.

Graeme,
The gizmo WAS a camera.....rather, that's the mount you can see......can you guess where the camera ended up after i'd crashed into a low tree branch whilst not paying attention?

THe orange thing is, indeed, a Praddle. We have three interlocking lakes, two of which are separated by a river - we sail across the river to get into the main lake. However, as this gap is surrounded by trees, we can have forum knots at each side of it, but forum zephyrs across the river - hence a praddle being a good investment :-)

The extra rope going up along the forestay is just the painter, tied up to avoid the drag caused by having it all loose - 'cos I'm obviously Sooooooooo fast and skilled I have to do that :-) - just keeps it out of the water really.

Yeah, I kinda like the blue, but yellow decals is a bit on the 'Glee' side (this coming from a bloke with a pink boat!) but it sort of blindsides other helms with it's campness - as it vapourises the water whilst passing 3-sail Merlins on a forum reach LOL
