I think that the raking rig idea was put into play on the "Dinosaurs Don't Surf", a short fat "windsurfer style" dinghy designed years ago in the USA. From memory, it used a curved traveller track and normal traveller controls to control the mast base and twin struts to support the mast at the wishbone gooseneck.

I'm not sure whether the raking rig would be as effective on boats as on boards, as some of its merits (already described by Grumpf) are related to board-only problems. I think a lot of the benefit also comes from the ability to move the whole rig aft and dramatically reduce wsa (and increase planing aspect ratio) downwind in a breeze. Due to the greater weight of a boat, there may not be the same effect on a boat.

Inspired by boards, I've played around with moving crew weight around radically on scow Moths and Canoes, but it seems to have much less effect on a boat.

Harsh, very harsh.

You do realise that photo is at the presentation of "Miss Rutland Water2012".  She was going to enter "Miss Hythe" but was was ruled out for not having webbed toes or being married to a blood relative.

They don't understand my rig concept TT, and they're jealous of my recently acquired moustache, the references to which concern my change of Facebook profile picture to that of Clarke Gable, who I now bear a close resemblance to.

They are weird, but I can weird right back if necessary, I shall try and get a drawing back up here later to drag the thread back on topic.

Really?

No more weird than certain posts suggesting McLube is necessary elsewhere on dinghy development...
