Hi all, Do any other clubs have a Facebook group or page that they use to keep in touch with members as well as their club website?
If so who is reponsible for the admin of the page/group and is it a closed group?
Cheers,
Paul

The Blackwater SC has a page, its an open page with strict moderation. The wall updates are taken from the clubs website (the public part) it also has an events section so that the facebook generation dont have to look at the club card for the major fixtures.... there is also a discussion section but not really used. It has about 15% of the total club membership on there with a very even spilt between male and female members, with most men being 18-24years and most women in the 25-34years.
Its a great way for people to keep upto date that would not normally check the club site daily, but do check in at facebook. As to whether its private or open, i think if its open with good moderation then why not let passers by see whats going on at your club, thats what the website is for anyway, and if its closed then i suppose if the online members are more interactive that is better for them.

Tresaith Mariners SC has a Facebook group, which has 3 administrators, our web site is almost non existant so Facebook is a better way to comunicate and upload pics of whats happening. I think we've got more people looking in on there than we have members.

We have a closed group (old style) and a newer "like" group. Unsure on uptake though

Liverpool SC use one. Its ok, low overhead really, very low interest.
Main advantage is that it appeals to a younger generation (I.e. pre retirement) so it worth doing I think. Its an area that hard to recruit in. It does events well and good way to show the club is active, never had a problem with abuse etc. Kev |

I created our club Facebook group in the time before you could create pages you could "like". I am admin on the group and it's open to everyone who wants to join. Most of the time, it's used to advertise latest news items and events coming to the club. Last month, I helped organising our annual Dinner Dance and over a third of all takers had confirmed on Facebook.
I see it as another way to keep the membership informed. There's a link the the FB group on our SC website news page and the news items are also advertised, about once a month, by email to all members.
