Hi, I've just bought a 2nd hand Tasar which has a painted
stripe around the waterline that I would like to remove
(its not that thick about a 1 inch stripe).

Does anyone have any suggestions of the best way to remove
it? Without damaging the fibre glass (or whatever it is)
and getting the best finish etc?

Thanks

Gentle heating and nails, then light wet and dry and polish over the whole hull to hide the inevitable lighter stripe.

are you sure its painted on (on top of the gelcoat), and not part of the gelcoat? if its gelled in then you would have to sand it back and fair in the whole thing, or try and paint over it.

There is a paint remover that is safe for use on GRP.

Dilunett? something like that. Also have a look at Yachtpaint.com

I don't know if any of these work on 2-pack paint though?

If the paint isn't adhering too well (hull not abraded), a carbide scraper might work, obviously great care required.

You could try solvents like antifoul thinners.

Good luck.
