You may find a Laser 2000 might be a better fit for your needs. That and there are several Laser 2000's at Hunts already (the beginnings of a fleet).

This is of course providing you have the money for one as they hold their value very well....

At 115kg, you'd be the right size for a 420, but it is not possible to say whether it would be the best boat for you and your dad.  It is, of course, a youth class which may put your dad off, and old ones tend to go soft and be uncompetitive.  They do, however, tend to come with loads of sails and are a good boat to sail in a way that is out of fashion at the moment.

There's a load of other boats you could try, from a Buzz to a Lark.  It just depends what you want from a boat.

Having sailed a 420 for about 3 years with weights ranging from 110 - 130kgs id say 115kgs would be fine in most wind strengths in my opinion. Of course this depends how much weight is on the wire! (if you're using the wire that is!).

Im presuming you'd be looking at an older one but as mentioned above the older ones do become uncompetative! If you look at nationals results you'll see that very few are below around sail no. 51000ish. You can pick these up relitively cheaply though around that number and they normally have masses of sails too!

When i first started sailing 420s i sailed with my dad and it was pretty good fun! The only thing hard to get to grips with is sailing them slightly off the wind. Also, an enterprise isnt a hell of a lot slower than a 420 at all! It depends on the wind strength, it'd only be a hell of a lot slower in stronger wind...
