Apologies if this is daft!

I have this dream of working on a big yacht in a distant land.

I'm not an experienced sailor, but am young, fit and keen. Where are the best places to look for work on the internet or otherwise?

Hi

Do you have any RYA qualifications? That would be where i start then gradually work up to the level of "compitant crew" etc.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I don't have any RYA qualifications. I sailed lasers when I was younger, but that's about it. I have an 11 week gap between jobs at the moment and I was hoping to cram an adventure in. I have just discovered crewseekers.net. Are they any good, is there a free alternative?

Apply via crewseekers, I have heard of it in the past but never used it.

Another place that you can look is on UKSA's website, somewhere on it they advertise but not sure how it works, only seen it on someone's computer. It won't hurt to email them to find out if you want more information, as they offer courses to train as a Deck hand etc. Sailing a Laser is a lot different to a yacht, more ropes to pull and things to polish and clean!

This is purely anecdotal rather than gospel.....

Many moons ago, a big boat sailor who was involved in transatlantic yacht deliveries told me that a good place to find a 'crewing' job was on a posting board in the (harbour) launderette at one of the transit ports (I think he mentioned Lisbon?). If you think about it, that's where a likely crew would be at some point.

Not very helpful I'm afraid. Things must have moved on in 25 years, internet forums like this one would I guess be the place to search, once you've broken into it, then, often you find things / opportunities out by word of mouth.

Good luck finding.
